Does Ware get a sack on the forced fumble play?

Cleveland will probably have the best line that we face this year. Giants should be good too. But Cleveland pas protection is very good indeed. It should be easier to ger pressure from here on out. The Cowboys beat a good team today fellas and made it look easy. I'm am very excited about this season.

Live with it.

Anyone who thinks Ware had a "below average" game has no concept of what a good or bad game is.

Ware had a sack, a forced fumble, a tackle for loss, another hit on the quarterback AND tied for the team lead in tackles.

Give him 16 "below average" games like that, and he should be the runaway Defensive Player of the Year.

Ware had a ton of double teams all day.

Ellis has to make them pay for that.

On the other hand, Tank and Spears showed up and were heard from and so was Ratliff.

But I agree..the pass rush was not effective overall.

McNabb will shred this defense if it plays like this next week.

And I have a feeling TNew will not be back...so Campo has his hands full getting our new secondary rookies and PacMan ready for that.

Oh my.

alot of double teams on the dware..overall thats what he brings. That leaves another man one on one to make plays.

Anytime you force a fumble on the QB behind the line of scrimmage, it's a sack.

Anderson was sacked a total of 14 times last year, in a division that has the Steelers and the Ravens. There were plenty of times where he was clearly rushing his throws to avoid the sacks like he usually does.

People think Ware should be in the backfield EVERY play, or when he isnt in the backfield he's about to pick off a pass.

Ware's off to a horrible start. 5 tackles and 1 sack? I mean come on, the past three years in his season openers these were his stats:

2005: 2 tackles, 0 sacks, 0 FF
2006: 4 tackles, 0 sacks, 0 FF
2007: 2 tackles, 0 sacks, 0 FF

Oh wait...he's starting this season off better than he ever has.

Horrible.

Yes, but Ware must be in the backfield on every play and look like Lawrence Taylor on Super Tecmo Bowl.

Furthermore, the defense must look like the '85 Bears, otherwise they are not that good and can't get any pressure on the QB.

Need anybody be reminded that Cleveland only gave up like 11 sacks last year. They have a great O-Line, and he was going up against Joe Thomas who is a hell of a left tackle.

Ware had a nice game.

I don't even know if we should bother playing the next 15 games. Ware is on the downside of his career. Barber's aggressive running style got him hurt. Jenkins is a bust. Pacman plays like Ms. Pacman. Man, and I was so excited for this season, maybe next year!

I think it has more to do with how good everyone expects Ware to play.

He usually does pressure the QB more than he did today. He often seems to be a step away from getting the QB about every third play. He was not quite that dominant today as a pass rusher, most of which I attribute to Thomas.

I was so hoping for a Ware vs Thomas showdown, but the Browns cheated me out of it. All game long they double and triple teamed Ware. We never got to see Thomas one on one vs Ware.

Of course Ware didnt get much of a pass rush and of course he wasnt very effective with wreaking havoc......he had 2-3 guys on him the whole game.....

perhaps one of his teammates who was one on one or a blitzing LB could have done something of significance, since Ware was drawing all the attention.

I will say it again. Ware had a below average game for Ware. He will play better than this game at least 8 games this year.

We didn't get much pressure on the QB and Ware did not create as much Havoc as he usually does.

You guys who can't see that are the same ones struggle to ever analyze or evaluate anything without homer glasses on.

Well, when I started this thread, I was kind of asking a statistical rule question, which a few people answered and I appreciate. How come the thread kind of got kidnapped into "Ware did or didn't have a below average game?"?! This board must not have had enough drama and material to debate over the mellow training camp :laugh1: because I didn't read too many posts that suggested DWare had a bad game. Certainly wasn't my intent with the first post anyway. I think the "protect" Ware's reputation posts gathered steam. Who said Ware had a bad or below average game, that was a dangerous strategy ;)

That being said, where can you find stats for knock downs? Is that an official stat? Today I think Ware had the one sack and one near sack that was a knock down. He played some great run D also. I have seen a few games where he hits the QB 5-6 times in a game, even though he doesn't get a sack. It didn't seem to me like today was a game where we hit the QB a ton, although we did pressure nicely at times. Anderson does seem to like to get rid of it before taking lots of contact.

Z Thomas still looks like he can time a delayed blitz too, something our inside lb'ers and safeties have struggled with IMHO for a few seasons.

I guess people lose perspective during the offseason, then.

Or maybe it's because Anderson threw only 24 passes, and Ware was in coverage for some of them. So because he had "only" one sack and "only" one other quarterback hit, people think he had a "below average" game.

In baseball terms, he just went 2-for-5 with a home run and a single. Even if it's not a "dominant" game, it was anything but "below average." Like I said earlier, if he has 15 more games like that, he should be the runaway defensive player of the year. Just like a player going 2-for-5 in every game would bat .400.

And you're wrong again. Figure out the percentage of pass plays when Ware was rushing the passer, then figure out the percentage of times when he got a sack, forced a fumble, hit the quarterback, flushed the quarterback out of the pocket, got near the quarterback as he threw, etc. I guarantee you he won't have eight games rushing the passer better than this one.

And that's not counting the plays he made against the run (including a tackle for loss near the goal line).

The pressure was mediocre.
We better get more pressure than that against McNabb or he will throw for 250+ yards on us.
I thought it was a below average performance for Ware.
And I thought McNabb hung stats on what is probably a bad football team in the Rams, which hasn't had a .500 season in oh about 5 years, and added Al "700-page playbook" Saunders (granted he was part of the Greatest Show on Turf) as a co-coordinator.

More obvious pressure would be nice but DA was dumping a lot of stuff to avoid pressure.
