Lloyd breaks collarbone
Commanders wide receiver will miss at least six weeks

Posted: Wednesday November 14, 2007 5:51PM; Updated: Wednesday November 14, 2007 5:51PM

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) -- Washington Commanders receiver Brandon Lloyd broke his collarbone Wednesday and will be sidelined at least six weeks, the latest setback in his disappointing tenure in the nation's capital.

Coach Joe Gibbs said Lloyd was hurt on the last play of practice when he caught a ball in the end zone. There was no other player involved.

"He landed on his shoulder and drove his shoulder into the ground," trainer Bubba Tyer said.

The force of the landing caused a complete break of the clavicle. Lloyd's right shoulder was put in a sling. He will not require surgery.

Lloyd has caught only two passes for 14 yards this season, having fallen out of favor with the coaches because of his work ethic and lack of productivity. He missed a team meeting two weeks ago and, as punishment, wasn't allowed to travel with the team for the following game against the New York Jets.

The Commanders traded two draft picks to San Francisco for Lloyd last year and signed him to a long-term contract that included $10 million in guaranteed money. He caught only 23 passes for 365 yards last season and lost his starting job to Antwaan Randle El in December.

However, this could have been the very week for Lloyd to have a chance to redeem himself. Santana Moss is struggling with a bruised right heel that caused him to miss last week's game against the Philadelphia Eagles, and James Thrash was on crutches Wednesday because of a severely sprained ankle.

Thrash is unlikely to play in Sunday's game against the NFC East rival Dallas Cowboys, and Moss' situation doesn't look much better. Moss didn't even bother trying to put his right shoe on completely as he left the locker room before Wednesday's walkthrough.

"We're working like crazy to get the swelling out of his heel so we can get him back on the field," Tyer said.

With seven games to go in the regular season, the Commanders will have to decide whether to place Lloyd on injured reserve and sign another receiver. Coincidentally, the team added receiver Burl Toler to the practice squad Wednesday, replacing offensive lineman Calvin Armstrong.

McCardell and Randle El will be the two main WRs in their sets.

Randle El actually looked pretty dangerous last week...As long as Campbell doesn't get enough time to throw back there

Oh, they have a few left, and if you have been following along with our RedStink posters, their whole team has more talent than the Cowboys (at least in their little minds)...

Commanders Re-sign Farris; Lloyd Placed On IR

The Commanders have signed wide receiver Jimmy Farris to replace Brandon Lloyd on the roster, the team announced on Thursday.

Lloyd was placed on injured reserve with a fractured right clavicle. He suffered the injury in practice on Wednesday.

Farris was at Commanders Park on Thursday and expected to participate in practice. His familiarity with the Commanders' offense should help his transition back to the team.

Farris, regarded as a high-effort and gritty player, spent time with the Commanders during the 2005 season and the 2006 preseason.

In 2005, he was active for four games, including the Commanders' Divisional Playoff game against Seattle, and caught one pass for 18 yards. He also recorded two special teams tackles.

The 6-0, 196-pound originally joined the NFL as a undrafted rookie free agent with the San Francisco 49ers.

He has spent time with five different teams in his career, including the 49ers, New England Patriots, Atlanta Falcons and Commanders. He was most recently with the Jacksonville Jaguars in training camp last summer.

Farris has played in a total of 34 NFL games, compiling seven receptions for 118 yards and two touchdowns.

We're at home this time though.........I'm quite sure that Wade has well informed the team of a let down.......The Cowboys will be fired up and the Commanders will have poor attempts of the "no huddle" offense and we will dominate....
