It's probably important to Witten himself to beat Gonzalez in single season receptions, but I could care less. What I would like to see him do is catch 100 passes in a single season. That feat alone should end all nonsense talk of:percyhoward;1864854 said:It's a race between him and Gonzalez. Trouble is that Gonzalez is the current record holder and it's highly likely that the Chiefs will throw at him for all four quarters. If Witten doesn't play all game, the odds favor Gonzalez keeping the record by setting a new one.superpunk;1864889 said:He has an outside shot at the NFL record, too. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see us go heavy to Witten in the first half. That deep middle is just asking for it.
I think it's a lot more than just an outside shot. In the last game of 2004, when he set the record, he had 3 first half catches. They threw 17 passes to him in the 2nd half, and he caught 11 to finish with 14.superpunk;1864889 said:He has an outside shot at the NFL record, too.

To ESPN, the only records that matters is what the Patsies are doing.percyhoward;1864931 said:The networks (at least ESPN) are completely unaware of this race to the record between Witten and Gonzalez, btw. I'd definitely rest Witten. Let Fasano and Curtis get some work in thereRxMan;1864761 said:He is a VERY important part of the offense. All I see is talk about Romo and of course TO. What kind of role will Witten have in this game?
