He is a VERY important part of the offense. All I see is talk about Romo and of course TO. What kind of role will Witten have in this game?

Rest the whole game? After first series? first quarter? Not sure what timetable you are talking about. My guess is he plays first half.

I was thinking he plays at least the first half. After that it seems like you would still want him in there to help Brad Johnson. I guess it depends on the score and how much we want to win. I just haven't read or seen anything about him.

It's a race between him and Gonzalez. Witten begins the day 2 catches ahead of Gonzalez, but Gonzalez will definitely be playing the whole game.

It's probably important to Witten himself to beat Gonzalez in single season receptions, but I could care less. What I would like to see him do is catch 100 passes in a single season. That feat alone should end all nonsense talk of:

A) Witten not being a top 3 NFL tight end, if not the #1 NFL tight end... because he is.

B) Any foolish comparison talk of Witten and Shockey OR Witten and Cooley in any NFC East discussion because they're wrong and any comparisons aren't even close anymore.

I'm sure that Romo wants to be the guy tossing that 100th reception, but I wouldn't care if it's Brad Johnson. Just git it done. That's my motto today.

He has an outside shot at the NFL record, too. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see us go heavy to Witten in the first half. That deep middle is just asking for it.

Trouble is that Gonzalez is the current record holder and it's highly likely that the Chiefs will throw at him for all four quarters. If Witten doesn't play all game, the odds favor Gonzalez keeping the record by setting a new one.

I think it's a lot more than just an outside shot. In the last game of 2004, when he set the record, he had 3 first half catches. They threw 17 passes to him in the 2nd half, and he caught 11 to finish with 14.

There's no reason for them not to do that again. Witten could get the record, then lose it half an hour later. The advantages for Witten are a 2-catch edge, and Croyle throwing it to Gonzalez, instead of the 2004 version of Trent Green.

The networks (at least ESPN) are completely unaware of this race to the record between Witten and Gonzalez, btw. Werder just said Witten would probably come out of the game "as soon as he gets his 100 catches."

To ESPN, the only records that matters is what the Patsies are doing.

I'd definitely rest Witten. Let Fasano and Curtis get some work in there

Today is a damned if you do, damned if you don't type of game. If you play your starters and one gets hurt on the first series, people will question why. If you don't, others will question why. NE and NYFG played their starters the entire game. I don't see anything wrong with that ... of course if one of them gets injured.:D
