I've always preferred the Dolly Parton version. I'm not a country music fan by any stretch, but it is definitely the better version.

Dolly is a good singer and on some songs I would side with her but Whitney's version of this song is way better IMO.

I am a huge country music fan and I give the nod to Whitney because of the sheer power of her voice. I do not like pop music for the most part but to this day I consider her one of the purest voices I ever heard.

Funny side story. I used to joke that I was in love with Whitney and that was why I was not married. I have an Aunt who has a hilarious habit. If something is taboo she whispers the taboo stuff. For instance if she is telling you about someone being arrested she will be talking normal and then whisper "drugs." Like saying it out loud will cause an uproar.

So when I was around 25 she asked me when I was going to get married. I told her when I could finally meet and woo Whitney Houston. She looked at me and then whispered. "She's Black." I whispered back, "I know."

Sad Whitney took so many stupid wrong turns in her life. At one time she was the absolute best there was.

I usually like originals over covers. Some exceptions but the most cases I like the originals better.

Dolly is one of the few country singers I can listen to.

I like her version better.

Whitney's is not bad but I will give it a penalty for spawning to many over singing wannabes in music.

I'm not voting tho..............they both bring something uniquely different to the song. Both are outstanding vocalists.

I loved him when I was a kid. I loved his snazzy outfits. I remember the one time that we went to Nashville we saw him at the Grand Ol Opry and I loved it!
