Donovan Ereiruaku measurements vs Parsons

Teams won't have to pass much against us. The worst area of the defense is the run defense and we haven't addressed it in any significant way. This kid may get some sacks but he's still an undersized DE and teams are going to run the ball right at him.
I thought one of Ezeiruaku's strength was his run defense? He may be small, but he is instinctive and that might make up for the lack of size. Lawrence was bigger, but he managed to get himself out of position a lot which led to success on those outside runs. If Ezeiruaku can avoid that he might be stronger against the run than Lawrence.

While I wanted a RB, my guy went right before in Judkins. But this kid is legit so I can’t complain.

Don’t forget that sooner or later Overshown will be back. With this kid, Micah, and him. Scary stuff if you’re a QB.

Great pick but dont look for him a Micah to play tandem DEs, they are too light
It will be him and Micah on one side and Kneeland/Williams on the other
PFF in their “biggest steals of the draft” article touts his snap count and run defense with stats to support.

NO. 44 DALLAS COWBOYS: EDGE DONOVAN EZEIRUAKU, BOSTON COLLEGE (BIG BOARD RANK: 17)

Although Ezeiruaku may lack the size and power of some other edge defenders in the class, his length and capability as a quick, smooth-moving pass rusher earned him a top-20 rank on PFF's big board as EDGE3. His 196 snaps versus true pass sets last season are the most in the class, and he earned a 90.7 PFF pass-rush grade with a 25.8% pass-rush win rate on those plays.

The positives continue for Ezeiruaku as a run defender, where he profiles as a savvy addition to boost a struggling Cowboys front. Dallas surrendered the most expected points added per rush in 2024. Ezeiruaku's 83.6 PFF run-defense grade placed him in the 91st percentile at the position this past season.

He is a solid run defender.

Yes he is on the smaller side with weight and height.

But he has long arms for his size.

So being shorter, he can use his long arms to get his hands under the OL’s pads and maintain leverage. Preventing the OL from getting into his body and allowing him to hold the edge and then shed for the tackle. It requires good technique but this guy has good technique. So I think he will be fine.

I wouldn’t want him out there all the time defending the point of attack against large tackles. But he shouldn’t be a liability either.

Sam Williams ran a 4.46 40, a 1.6 10 yard split and had a 10'3" broad jump. He didn't do the cone and shuttle drills, but at his pro day he had a 36" vertical. Sam Williams is 6'4" and 261 lbs. I am not saying Ezeiruaku is not a good player, but I would argue he is similar to Sam Williams who is already on the team, only Williams is bigger.

I wonder if the plan is to get rid of Williams, who has been known to make mental mistakes, bad mental mistakes. Maybe they trade him for a receiver or RB?
Williams was a first round talent as a rusher. Might have gone 1st round period if not for his off the field stuff. However he has never been a good run defender. He pretty much projected as a Robert Quinn clone. Ezeiruaku is much more skilled run defender than Williams was when he came out

Would be nice to have paired him with a real quality run stopper up the middle……. Someone like Poona Ford.

But our ***** for GMs have no vision.
There was only the lightest of interest in big DT's. Collins was the only 1T they had for a visit. Like it or not, I think plan was always to see if Mazi develops more there. They did look at alot of 3T's, so they may only see Smith as a run down player. At this point all we can do is hope Mazi improves. He play did trend upward all year. However he went from one of the worst DT's in football, to a below average starter. But hey at least its something lol

Not buying it
At 245 he can run defend in college where 95% of his competitors are bagging groceries but he will be a run liability in the NFL. If you put him and Micah at DEs together im licking my chops as the opposing OC

Forgive us if we rely on experts who have actually watched the tape and are paid to make evaluations.

He makes Fowler expendable after this season. Good pick up for 2026 as was Revel. They may contribute this season but will be expected to start in 2026. I’m fine with that because I don’t expect many wins this season. Focus more long term.
Exactly Revel could make Diggs or Bland expendable also. Hopefully the man they use to call "Seatbelt Carson" can show some improvement this season. We need a nickle corner. And don't forget Josh Butler looked good when he came in. Too bad he tore his ACL on Thanksgiving last year. He might miss most of this coming season. Maybe Kaiir Elam can show something, though we basically have him on a 1 year rental.

Forgive me if i rely on 50 years on NFL history and common sense

Show me the great NFL defense that starts 2, 245 lb DEs and has crap at DT like we do

Don't get me wrong, I like the pick. But don't we have a DL on the smaller side? I worry about the run D.

I don't think they get rid of Sam Williams this season (last year of his rookie contract), but Ez allows them to let Williams walk after the season.

And he doesn’t seem to have issues with bi-polar disorder either!

If this is the case, might as well tank all of this 2025 season in order to draft in the Top 3 of 2026 in order to get the best picks from each round. I mean if everyone is going to blow expectations right now in order to cover for Jerry's overdrafting and costly picks once again.

In obvious passing situations you want both out there. He’s not big but he doesn’t play the run as bad as you’d think. He uses his quickness to avoid blockers. He had 80 tackles

has little value. He has speed but he needs to develop pass moves. The new kid has more pass moves than many vets. Sam has raw talent and he has had a few brain farts but main thing is he needs to be fully healthy. If he shows something in pre season he might earn some trade value
