Check out this film of Smith playing LT against consensus top-10 talent Randy Gregory in 2013.

He handles Gregory pretty much the whole game, stuffing him numerous times pass blocking. His run blocking could use some work, but overall a pretty impressive game.

He had good Senior Bowl practices and was very stout during that game. Currently projected as a 3rd-5th rounder, but will probably climb up draft boards.

I would really like the Cowboys to highly consider him as a RT replacement.

He'll probably get drafted earlier than those projections. He's a Junior that the draft analysts thought was going to return to school which caused them to be behind in evaluating him.

I know plenty of mocks have this guy in the middle rounds, but a kid with his skill set and the position he plays tends to get drafted higher. I think he goes late second , early third. Really nice player with a high ceiling.

Yeah he definitely earned himself some cash the past couple of weeks. I'm thinking he's more of an early-mid 2nd rounder now

If he is there in the 2nd, he needs to be high on our list. We can take care if the DL and really solidify our OL for the next 8-10 years.

I like him at RT but I'm not sure how high I would draft him. Probably no higher than 3rd right now.

Speaking of OLinemen, NFLDS has Cameron Erving ranking at 26. If that guy was somehow available at #27 I would have a hard time passing on him. He was a terrific LT and then they moved him to Center when they needed him there. He can literally play all 5 positions on the OL at a high level.

I really like Erving a lot. A whole lot. I think he's one of those guys kind of like Martin that could step right in and play at a pretty high level, right from jumpstreet.

As much as Dallas needs defense, I wouldn't mind him at 27 whatsoever.

That's why I think Dallas needs to get a couple of DL in free agency and maybe a DB... so they can go with the best player that they like at 27. If it is another OL, then so be it. I certainly wouldn't want to reach for a DE at 27 and then have a guy like Erving slide to Washington at the top of round 2.

Use free agency to fill enough holes where they can go BPA. They did it last year and I bet they do this year as well.

I think they draft OL in one of the first three rounds if for no other reason than it is likely to be be BPA when they draft. I like Smith, Irving and several guards that are likely to be there. BTW I see a lot of teams written about that are looking to improve their OL in the draft. Gnats and 4skins to name a couple.

Totally agree. They need to take care of need in Free Agency and draft BPA.

The good thing at #27 is that there a is a good chance that a player you had rated much higher falls to you. The Cowboys might only have 20 players rated as 1st rounders but there's still a good chance that some of them make it to #27 because obviously not all teams have the same opinions of players.

I agree with using FA to fill holes so we can go after BPA on draft day.

Yeah, me too. I bet OL will be a hot commodity because of the success Dallas had with it this past season. I know Washington fans are talking non-stop about the OL, particularly since they got Callahan.

I think if Smith went back to school he would be a top 15 pick next year. He outplayed most the OT's I saw and went between LT and RT seamlessly. Blew Sambrailo (borderline 1st rounder) and Clemmings (supposed first round lock, and possible top 10) off the field.

I think when you dream up in your head what you would want a young RT to look like to finish off this OL he looks a lot like DS.

I watched all his games, and he was extremely underwhelming for a player with pro potential. I was shocked that he declared this year, although he had graduated so he felt he wanted to move on. He's generally been out of shape (alarm bells go off when a guy is playing in his college "contract year" and can't shed the pounds), and the line gave up about a billion sacks this season (a lot of marginal players and zero depth). He may have looked good in some senior bowl drills, but the tape doesn't lie when it comes to his junior year. I'd be afraid of Romo getting killed if he's manning RT next year. Perhaps after 2-3 years of NFL training/motivation and getting in shape he might be good.

Buyer beware.
