Several mocks project we will draft FS Reggie Nelson (doubt he's there when we pick) in the first round; I don't think we will.
FSs in the NFL make the calls/adjustments to ensure the secondary is in position to make the plays. Phillips in Hamlin's PC cited the importance of Hamlin's ability to make those calls correctly. I think Phillips specifically wanted Hamlin cause he saw in our game film how badly that situation was handled by our previous 2 FSs.
Some of you probably will simply suggest Roy Williams or one of the CBs can handle it. But for variety of reasons, it simply doesn't work that way. So while Nelson might have the physical skills to do the job, he simply wouldn't have the experience to do the mental part.
Additionally we would still be vulnerable at the CB position since all 3 of our CBs are 29 or above; Glenn is 35 and Henry 31 & Reeves/Jones are viewed as future starters.
