On the game....
1) If you look at the stat line or listen to the commentators you'd think that our OL turned into swiss cheese and got Romo killed. However, if you watched closely most (if not all) of the sacks came because Romo had to hold the ball with nowhere to throw it. Romo didn't have a good game but if you saw the replays downfield, there literally was no one open....at least not early and often not late either. We ran the ball decently against a good DL but our WRs were simply not getting open. We don't have a WR that scared them so they sat on our short stuff, although Witten got his. That was a tradeoff that the Vikings won though.
2) Thought our defense actually played really well. They kept us in it and we had our chances in the third. The offense kept killing us. On two of the TDs our DBs had Rice blanketed and were inches from breaking it up or if Sensa had turned around, he would've had a pick. I also thought Rice got away with an illegal chop block then got up to catch a TD pass. Overall, I was pleased with our D, it was near where it needed to be. I think our offense left them in some deep holes and didn't help them out with TOP.
3) Not a fan or a hater of Garrett but I didn't think he adjusted too well with the playcalling. Then again, I get the impression that the playBOOK may have not been deep enough to deal with what their D was doing.
4) Truly idiotic to send Suisham out there when we were outside the 30. Was there anyone here that didn't know he would miss? Apparently Wade was the only guy who thought he could make it. More puzzling, we did it twice.
5) the last TD was pretty classless...completely unecessary. If you run it in on us that's one thing but stop trying to pad stats and disrespect by throwing it. I hope we don't forget that.
6) There isn't a team in the NFL that would've beaten Minny today. They played about as well as they can play. That was the best their D has played all year IMO. If they play that well the rest of the way, they will win out.
7) I'm not sure if to root for Favre to win the SB so he'll go away once and for all or to hope that he doesn't win it so we don't have to deal with an entire offseason of Favre-orgy

On the season...
1) I like this team. They have a fire. The defense has some swagger. They learned what it takes to win in the playoffs. They learned how to win. They pulled together and always played hard. It was a really good season overall even though it didn't end like we would've liked.
2) Our defensive personnel is good. Our offseason should look to add a weapon on offense and add to the depth at OL. Any defensive additions are just gravy.
3) I don't think JJ wants to spend the money but the best thing he could do would be to convince Wade to become the D coordinator and bring in someone like Cowher or Fisher and possibly an O coordinator. I felt like we definitely got beat today on the Xs and Os.
4) I've been back and forth on Romo but I really think he'll get us there. There aren't more than 5 or 6 QBs in the league I'd take over him and he played well the entire season save 2 games.
5) Roy Williams is a complete bust. He is dragging us down. I'm afraid we're nearly married to his contract but we have to get someone that will force a defense to adjust. Teams are laughing at RW and he's a waste of a route most of the time. I'm not sure Crayton would be better in RW's spot. I really hate to say it....but TO would've probably had 2-3 long TDs today and the entire defense would've been different. I would never want TO back but we need someone that does that. Austin is really good no doubt, but void another viable downfield threat, he can be stymied. We have to either bring someone else in, draft someone on day 1, or see what Ogletree can do full time. We have a ton of possession WRs and not enough lethality...we need someone who is lightning in and out of cuts, gets separation, and knows how to get open.

Added bonus (no extra charge):
What's up with kickers this year? If you could have any K from another team who would you take...guys that have traditionally been money have been terrible...Rackers, Kaeding, Folk, ....Akers is the only one I can think of that's been consistent this year.
And how ironic that one of the lowest paid starters, K, seems to decide so many games late in the season and playoffs. Solid D and a consistent K can almost get you a SB these days. Its actually sad.

:laugh2: Uh, you might want to reconsider this or take another look. The O Line got routed and outclassed period.

I stopped reading right when you said OL didn't play that bad. I saw what I saw. Columbo played like garbage. Yeah, Vikings DL played well. Cowboys OL was decent till 2nd quarter, then went totally bad once FLozell went out.

Most of the game it was hut-hut then a 5 step drop, look at the 1st read and then turn and run from a defensive lineman in his face, spin away then get hit by the other lineman or 2 or 3 that came through on the jailbreak.
Or, sometimes just get blindsided as soon as he made his drop.

I stopped reading after post #1.

There wasn't much time to pass. When there was a bit of time, Romo was just moving around but being harassed and forced to pull his arm down. The biggest problem by far was the pressure. I refuse to believe their secondary without their best player all of a sudden learned how to cover one of the most potent air attacks in the league.

If your argument is that we can't bring back RW in his current form because he can't beat man coverage consistently when Miles is doubled, then I would agree. RW has to improve or he should be cut. His current level of play is not acceptable at the #2.

Delete this thread. Once this guy sobers up and sees he posted this idiocy, he might want to commit suicide and that wouldn't be a good thing.

I wouldn't be too worried about Favre winning the SB. Or Manning. Jets are really starting to look like the team of destiny.

I hope Iupati lasts until the 3rd round but I won't be surprised if he doesn't. Dude is a man-beast who hasn't even played football that long and can dominate the guy across the line from him. Hope to see him and Suh go head to head in one of the all-star games.

+1

OL was horrible today. I was watching the highlights on NFL network and a lot of the sacks came with the Vikings sending 4 rushers only!!! For a second it seemed like they were blitzing us a lot, but this wasn't the case. Their LBs were faking a rush and then going back to cover.... Colombo was beat 1vs1 constantly... Witten was lined up against Allen and got killed... Kosier being fooled and the DL going untouched...

Yeah, the Vikings' sacks simply were not, in any shape or form, coverage sacks. There were a few times where I was screaming for Romo to get rid of the ball as he started scrambling around the backfield in circles. But even in those cases, he was mostly prohibited to get rid of the ball because the pressure was coming from all angles. He'd escape the guy coming up the middle by bouncing left, only to have a guy there. So he'd have to try to go the other way and then, bam, he's sacked.

OL just did not provide Tony any time at all to sit there and make any kind of reads or wait for his WR's to break open. It was one look and run for his life the whole game. Columbo was abused as was the rest of the interior line.

Let me add, to the original poster, I don't think your other observations are that far off from how the rest of us feel. I agree the defense did a pretty good job today. On the Sensabaugh touchdown, the defense was drawn up perfectly -- Favre was pressured and leveled, and you have a guy running stride for stride with the receiver. Somehow, the ball was placed literally within that only 10-inch window it could. Sensabaugh's got to turn back and look for that ball, but how he didn't even accidentally manage to deflect that thing away, I'll never know.

Lastly, you brought up Roy, and so did Eskimo, so I wanted to chime in an opinion. My worry with him moving forward is -- what exactly is it that he does well? Like you said, what purpose does he really serve? Like Eskimo said, if he can't beat single coverage, what's he doing out there?

He's a physically gifted player, and that talent finally manufactured itself for a quarter against Philly last week. That third-down catch he snagged on (I think) a post route was a thing of beauty. But why was he only able to make that kind of play like, umm, once all season?

We've had this guy for something like 25 games and I still have no idea what he's doing here.

The post seemed mostly right on to me. I do think the OL played poorly but the point that the receivers didn't seem to be open is a good one.

...i'll add that RB rotation has to be addressed...as much as i like Marion Barber, too many times we've seen him average much less than Jones on the stat sheet...this business about QB protection is strained past the point of credibility...man, it looks like this Roy Williams business is really going to hurt but Jones will just have to eat it like the Galloway fiasco...maybe they can get him going next year but i'm thinking Dallas needs someone precise and productive opposite Austin...maybe Olgetree challenges for time at #2...this team needs to address the tackle position big time for the coming year...i'm going to chalk Columbo's performance today up to being rusty but his stock has fallen...Free may play himself onto that line by next year's end...Adams has worn out his welcome...

Why would you even bother entering this thread when the subject heading clearly stated not to blame the OL?

And then you choose to post how you stopped reading it?

Interesting.

Agreed, after reading that I couldnt imagine anything else that was typed was worth reading.

Romo got sacked 6 times and was running for his life at least 5 other times but the Oline isnt too blame.

Huh? Maybe to point out how that first point made no sense considering what happened on the field. You made post about that, instead anything related to OP thread. Interesting....

Okay, wasn't intended to flame you just trying to understand the logic behind it. Aside from that, I thought you missed some pretty good points the OP made after the OL comment.
