As a bartender I see many drunk people come into my bar. I can tell as they walk in what kind of drunk person I am going to be dealing with. My favorite drunk people are the ones who come in, with the mindset they are going to come in, get drunk, give a sad but valiant attempt at bringing a girl home. Most likely, they fail, but theyre still happy, tip me, and say they will get em next time.

My least favorite drunk people that come into the bar is a drunk couple with a protective, controlling guy nitpicking everybodys action as if it were to be sabotaging him. For instance, a wasted couple comes in tonight. His lady asks me for a shot while he was too busy meanmugging the whole bar. Me, doing my job, I pour her the shot she ordered. He immediately runs up to me asking me why I got her that, what is in it, why didnt i give him, etc? I tell him relax Im just doing my job. A minute later hes fighting another guy for sharing an ashtray w her asking him what hes doing, how does he know her, why he is standing next to her?

This seems like rambling but heres my point. I love the Cowboys, unconditionally. I love to watch the game with a smile and hope, that even though we might be down by 28 or whatever like last week, I still believed that we would make the best comeback ever. Obviously that didnt happen but I said the same thing to my Bills best friend in Buffalo a few years back on MNF sitting in suites at Ralph Wilson Stadium. I knew it prolly wasnt gonna happen, like my drunk customers who are gonna give everything they got to score no matter the odds. Once in a while, theyre gonna get lucky.

On the contrary, there is a difference between love and obsession. The obsessed guy with his girlfriend walks in the bar and he already has what most other guys want, he is more worried about how she performs in the bar, nitpicking her every move and motive. Even while she is completely behaving herself, he still finds something wrong to ***** about, leaving me feeling sorry for him and her.

What inspired this rant is that the Boys were up by 2 scores with the ball in the 4th quarter against another NFL team that beat the Giants and I read nothing but negative comments on this forum. Cmon Man! The Cowboys arent better thamn anybody. The Seahawks get paid too. Be Happy with the W. That is ALL that matters.

I like this post. It's different but gets the point across. Quick question though, how much blame does the girl get for staying with the controlling guy? Sounds like they both were young and need to grow up.

When I think of the girl I think of the attacked cowboys player, most notibly Romo. He or she might make mistakes but the obsessed guy or fan should know where their loyalty is.

most of these guys on this board are too old to remember what being in there 20s and having fun was all about

.." Rejoice Oh young man in thy youth".........Believe me, I rejoiced enuff for EVERYBODY!....LOL Now my Saturday nights are spent dozing off on the recliner : Point is.......get it while your young because once its gone.......ITS GONE!

Love and/or obsession have practically zero relevance to what happens in the game day threads. In this era of digital instantaneous satisfaction, almost all of the reaction in question is due to "I cannot stand it! AAAGGGHHH! Make it stop! mommy." frustration.

It literally starts in the first quarter of every game and swallows each quarter that follows. Passion for the game is one thing. Hollering and screaming when something truly game-changing occurs, like committing a turnover with a narrow lead, would be logical triggers.

No. 'This' is something else entirely different. The emotional triggers are Bailey or Buehler lining up to kickoff, the graphics of the starting lineup flashing on the screen, etc.

For the most part, just grin and bear it. It's a cliché, but it is also one with sanity-retaining properties.

I remember my twenties, but my recollection of acting like a Tazmanian Devil for 60 minutes every game is a complete blank.

"Releasing my inner Daffy every so often?" Sure.

Doing this nonstop for four quarters?

Nope. Then again, that chicken hawk may have clubbed me one time too many back then.

I agree with the OP, I'm not happy when the team quits like they did at times last year. But as long as they are giving 100%, then I enjoy the ride. I think it's a joke for anyone who thinks JJ is not doing everything he can to put a winning team on the field. He's not always successful at it, but it's not from lack of want or effort.

By the way, it does not have to be gone, AH. Sure, you need to change the rules a little since you can't run as fast or jump as high, but you can still have a great game and have a blast! I have just as much if not more fun these days as my 20's, just different kinda fun.

I think if you post on a team form and argue with complete strangers, you're as obsessed as they come. I hate to be the on to break it to you. ;)

Yeah, I'm with ya. I usually always would read through the game threads during the game, rarely posted just because I'm not fast enough. By the time I got through typing a response the thread has moved on two pages and changed topics 6 times, lol. But I found myself not enjoying the games because I was getting too ticked off at people in the thread! The last two games I abstained from entering the thread and found myself much more able to root for the team and enjoy the good plays (at least there were some good plays in this game) and it wasn't nearly as frustrating. I highly recommend it. Not knocking anyone who wants to participate in the game thread, but some of the reactions in there to the tiniest little thing are so far over the top that I can hardly stand to read it. I'm just going to watch the games from now on so I don't have to deal with the drunk boyfriend until he's had time to sober up. :D

So true, :laugh2:

So a guy that is abusive and obsessive to his significant other is similar to a Cowboys fan making negative comments about his team? I don’t agree. Many react differently to both. You can be critical of the Cowboys without beating your wife.

Although i think the guy (in the OPs example) that is protecting their significant other to an extreme is the Cowboys apologist. Nobody puts baby in the corner!

Shneek814, thank you for the story. You are exactly right and the analogy fits perfectly. It helped me to understand so many members here, on both sides of the spectrum.

The "happy fans" to the "negative nannies" - those who are happy to cheer for the team and predict better days, to those who are always complaining, never happy and ready to condemn any positive talk as being homeristic.

Good drunk, bad drunk. I know which one I prefer. ;)

Well if you're painting a picture of two extremes, obviously you're going to make it seem like you stand on the side of truth, justice and the American way. ;)

There are many different types of fans. Even those that are often accused of being eternal optimists often take out their frustration by abusing other members of the forum. Everybody has to vent one way or another.

I would just caution keeping "many members here" in its proper context. We have a number of members who actively post on a daily basis. However, they account for only a fraction of the site's total membership and do not necessarily represent views and opinions held by the board's majority.

Exactly. Just like there are a number of different types of people that visit the bar the bartender works at. He picked two examples, then labeled them to fit his agenda. They were poor comparisons. Now, if you want to talk about cliques on a forum, that’s a different story.
