Don't dismiss Deuce Vaughn for 2025 so easily

Sanders, mafah, blue, Williams, vaughn, luep. 3 of these backs won’t be on the roster imo. The two draft picks will be here, so 3 guys fighting for 1 spot. He is going to have to have a phenominal camp

If Vaughn wins a roster spot on the Cowboys then they have failed once again for fix their RB problem. He has had some chances, and will probably see more in the preseason games, but so far I have not seen anything to make be believe he can be a quality NFL RB. I think the Cowboys did try some things with him. Maybe it was the OL and if so maybe this year he will have a better chance.

Teams generally keep four backs these days, not three.

With a new set of coaches (including his old college O-line coach), plus an expected younger and better offensive line, this should help RB Deuce Vaughn better use his skillset to prove he deserves to be on the Dallas Cowboys team (whether the 53 player roster or practice squad)...or make it harder to cut him.

The least Deuce deserves if he fails to make the 53 player roster is to be brought back on to the Practice Squad and be one of the 4 players protected from being stolen. He is young, has a very good skillset and should be kept in case one of the running backs who makes the 53 player roster actually gets injured.

What say you?

He has like a 10% chance of making the 53 and that might be only if someone gets hurt.

This is year 3 for him, even though last year was a throwaway season. He might or might not earn a role on the team. Still, he has to have shown some promise or he wouldn't be hanging on.

Deuce Vaughn's 40-yard dash time at his Pro Day was 4.46 seconds. He also ran a self-recorded time of 4.44 seconds, according to some reports. While he didn't run the 40 at the NFL Combine, he did participate in other drills, including the vertical jump and broad jump.

Not sure why his 40 time shows differently in different places. :huh:I certainly don't believe a self-timed 40 of course. That's kind of silly to even put out there. Self timed?
Point is that I think we all wanted Deuce to succeed. It didn't happen and it's not going to happen. Great story and a great kid, but it would be shocking if he makes the 53.

The cowboys took bring your son to work a little to far. he should have never been drafted, he should have never made the team and he should be the first cut, they should have released him instead of Davis but since daddy is an employee they are not going to do that. He has no role, no chance and is a complete and total waste of a roster spot, not even worthy of a PS spot, dude can't even ride rides at Disney World. Some of yall are blaming the coaches for not "using" him properly, there is no proper use for the guy other than maybe water boy. If he is still on this roster anywhere, 53, PS etc then you know the Cowboys are not serious about winning any thing.

There are multiple td runs at k-state that show he is a very fast back. Not as fast as Jaydon Blue but still faster than a majority of backs in the nfl.

Yes, but when you weigh 176lbs you need to be in like the 99th percentile. You can't be just "faster than the majority of backs" when these guys are all 200lbs plus. I'm certainly not using an elite back like Saquon as the measuring stick for making an NFL roster of course, but just as an exaggerated example Saquon ran a 4.40 and weighed 233lbs.

Forget Blue, look at the RBs most mocked to us this year:
Hampton: 4.46; 221lbs
Judkins: 4.48; 221lbs
Henderson: 4.43; 202lbs
Jeanty - I don't think he ran the 40

I think Turpin makes him expendable. If he isn't our full time returner then I don't see us having the room to keep him. Sure he is shifty and can make nice plays, but I think his size makes him a liability for the QB when he needs to block. That means he could only be in a small amount of plays and would key off the defense when he was in as well. However, Deuce has been proving people wrong his whole career and be more than fine eating these words.
That's what sucks about this kind of player...

It tips your hand to the defense.

Seems like if he had good technique...that low center of gravity could help him get under, find leverage and block a defender. He would have to be strong. He looks like a ball of muscle, just don't know if he is too short for what I am trying to explain.

This kid could be a weapon if he can learn block adequately.

When he matures in a 2 or 3 years...he might have something. Just hard to find a 53 spot in the mean time.

I'm rooting for him

Vaughn is not making the team. I like his story, but his game just doesn't translate to the NFL.
