The Patriots are God's gift to football... they're men among boys, gods among men...
Or maybe they've just played a lot of crappy teams.
Cowboys offense (4th ranked offense) vs Patriots Offense (1st ranked offense) Difference is about 80 yards per game.
Cowboys played:
Washington - 6th ranked defense
NY Jets - 11th ranked defense
Detroit - 12 ranked defense
San Fransisco - 13 ranked defense
(All ranked 13th or higher)
Patriots played (Note that the Patriots bump everyone they've played up a ranking because they in fact have the worse ranked defense in the league):
Miami - 28th ranked defense
San Diego - 5th ranked defense (4 turnovers by the Chargers offense)
Buffalo - 30th ranked defense
Oakland - 31st ranked defense
New York Jets - 11th ranked defense
Patriots hung 446 yards on the Jets, we hung 390 yards on them. Again mind you not healthy for 4 quarters, but i digress.
I completely believe that our offense is just as good if not better than the Patriots offense when we're healthy. The second biggest thing is just being smart with our decisions.
The huge difference I see in this game is our defenses. We both have G defenses. Ours? Great. Theirs? Garbage.
Oh the Patriots are playing better defense the last couple weeks right?
Their last two games have been against the Raiders and the Jets.
The Jets have the 28th ranked offense in the nfl, Oakland the 9th. You probably want to say the Raiders are a great offense then? Maybe they're good, but look at the box score for the Raiders Pats game. Campbell throws 2 picks on top of his 344 yards passing, and the Raiders ran 160 yards.
People are saying the Pats can run the football now because of the last two games...
Oakland is 22nd in the league against the run. The Jets? 26th.
The highest ranked team against the run that they've played?
14th ranked Miami who is giving up 107.5 yards per game. How much did the Pats hang on them? 106 yards.
Next?
17th ranked San Diego with their 113.6 rushing yards allowed per game. Pats hung up 94 yards.
Our games against the Detroit Lions and Washington Commanders combined with the return of our top 2 receivers to 100% health should give our team great confidence in running against the New England Patriots rush defense. Ranked just slightly better than Detroit's rush defense.
Unless New England plans on stacking the line with a healthy Bryant + Austin, with Robinson thrown into the mix... I think they're going to have problems.
If none of this makes you confident in the fact that the patriots are false gods, I'm not sure what will.
The Patriots remind me a lot of the 2009 Saints. They have offense sure, but a great deal of their scoring comes from teams shooting themselves in the foot i.e. interceptions, kick returns for td, fumble returns for td. And I'm not taking that away from the Pats, but smart football prevents a lot of that. And you saw that more often in 2010 with the Saints.
Not only did we beat the 2009 saints, but in 2010 they dropped from 31.9 points per game to 24 points per game.
It the type of team that the Eagles want to be. They put up points, try to make you one dimensional so you don't expose their poor defenses, and then you end up throwing picks, which makes the game get absolutely ridiculous.
The Jets actually put on a good show against the pats last week. But again Sanchez really just couldnt get it done. I think we're a much better team than last weeks Jets. I don't think it's even close. I think our offense is in a different league, and I just think our defense is better.
Our offense has the potential to be the best in the nfl (I feel). They knock on the door, but they don't consistently pass through it.
2007 - 3rd in offensive yards, 2nd in scoring
2008 - 13th in offensive yards, 18th in scoring
2009 - 2nd in offensive yards, 14th in scoring
2010 - 7th in offensive yards, 7th in scoring
2011 - 6th in offensive yards per game, 12 in scoring
This is a huge reason why we've struggled, and why so many of our games are close. I'm hoping with the return of our receivers we will return to 2007 form where we simply had too many threats to focus on stopping the run, but our running game just desperately needs to improve. I am 100% on board for trading for Peyton Hillis, as I think the improvement he gives us in short yardage situations and in the redzone would put us back in that elite category that we were in, in 2007.
Miles has for the most part replaced T.O.'s numbers. Not 100% but for the most part. What we're missing is that production from Witten and Barber. We had 14 rushing touchdowns in 2007, that is nearly a touchdown per game. Right now we have 1 rushing touchdown in 4 games... People want to blame Romo, but that's a much bigger reason why we are 2-2.
