hard nose guy that would over-haul the offensive line like he did in Pittsburgh. He has 25 years NFL experience (as player and coach). He is also credited with developing Jon Jansen and Chris Samuels as offensive line coach with Commanders. He was so valued by Cowher that he promoted Grimm to assistant head coach (only coach to hold that title during Cowher time). I also trust that he would be able to pull one of the assistants from Pittburgh legendary defense.

That's the guy I would probably rather have over Rivera.

He's an intriguing prospect and would presumably keep the 3-4. The threads on Extremeskins would be priceless as well.

I don't think that the Steelers O-line coach is particularly committed to the 3-4

if for no other fact than we don't have to wait two weeks to hire him. It allows us to get a staff in more quickly if that's the rout we choose to go. Grimm will be a good one imo.

True, but there's a greater chance of that than if we hired Rivera. I see your point though, if Grimm went to a team running a 4-3 then he probably would keep the system the same. Honestly, I'm not necessarily beholden to either defensive system at this point.

The one thing that bothers me as that the Steelers kept having him back for multiple interviews including one six hour session. It seems like they would already know a good bit about him. It makes me think there was something they were uncomfortable with...

The other thing about the Pittsburgh assistants is that Cowher recommended they bring in a coach from the outside to take his place. It seems like he would have recommended one of them...

Not if his plan was to return in a year. Then, he may be very interested in having them available.

Good point. That's probably why my number one choice is Rivera he just has that "feel" to him. I think Grimm will be a solid head coach one day (Gibbs replacement in Wash?) but I think Rivera has a slight edge. If only we didn't have to wait two bloody weeks...

True, but I doubt the Steelers would allow him to talk to any of their coaches if he comes back to coach another team...

The other question would be, if you hired a guy like Grimm, would LeBeau come with him?

This is true. For LeBeau as well. The thing you don't know there is how long there contracts are in place for.

I thought LeBeau already announced his intentions to stay at Pittsburgh?

No...

The Steelers and Tomlin have stated that LeBeau has been retained...

Man Law!

Any original member of Washington's "Hoggs" is automaticly disqualified from being the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys.:laugh2:

I think they were referring to bringing him in there to overhaul your line.

I'm speaking in terms of Cowher. However, in regards to LeBeau and his current situation, it would not be permitted because he would basically be taking a latteral move. Steelers wouldn't allow it if Grimm were hired.

However, the upside to Grimm is that he is an offensive coach. He understands the offense and the importance of the offensive line, which to me, is the biggest failing on our team. I think we could go out and get a guy like Singletary for our DC. We could bring in a very good passing coordinator to be our OC. Maybe a guy like Ramsdell from the Chargers. The main thing, for me, is that Grimm is an OL coach from way back. I just believe that OL is where you go to start a team. Get the best and brightest one you can.
