Even with Kitna behind the helm for what 11 games, we were ranked:
7th in total yards
7th in points scored
I'm sorry but I can't help but think that despite having a young inexperienced offensive line that the following elements are true
- Tony Romo is better than Jon Kitna
- Felix Jones is the starter, and is far more explosive and consistent than Barber
- The offensive line is far more dynamic this year than last
- Our running back corps is completely improved with the subtraction of Barber
- Dez Bryant is in year 2
- It will be difficult for anyone to be as detrimental as Roy Williams was last year.
The offensive stability alone should significantly help our defense. People like to blame the defense for everything, but before Romo got hurt, a lot of the miscues that we had that cost us games were because of our offense.
Key Notes:
2010 receiver percentages
Roy Williams reception percentage - 57.8 percent
Dez Bryant reception percentage - 62.5 percent
Miles Austin reception percentage - 57.9 percent
2009 receiver percentages
Miles Austin - 64.8 percent
Roy Williams - 43.1 percent
Not only will getting Tony Romo increase these numbers, but the increased focus on Dez Bryant rather than Roy Williams will also dramatically improve our numbers. I expect Miles to return to form with Romo. Roy Williams was actually peaking last year, which shows you how behind he was.
Marion Barber took his 111 carries and averaged 3.3 yards per carry. The lowest TEAM average in 2010 was 3.6 yards per carry... Even Felix's 4.3 would have tied him for 10th in the league.
You can't help but realize how much Marion and Roy held this offense back last year.
Back in 2007 this offense was truly on fire, and that's because we had a running game to complement the pass. Hopefully we get back to that.
