I remember a while back someone was saying how Belichick was really good at trading players while they still have value who are declining. Maybe this is the time we should consider putting Witten out there? Before I start getting trolled I love Witten, he is by far one of if not the best TE we have had and I have his away Jersey. Maybe it's time we shop him for a S or a lineman or two? Thoughts?

Witten is more than just a TE for this team. He is one of the leaders and inspiration for other players on this team. Not to mention, he is still the best TE on the team.

Trading him would be a bad deal. Plus, I want Witten to be a Cowboys lifer. It was a real shame that Emmitt left and went to the Cardinals. Let's not have the same thing happen to Witten.

I think Romo would attack Jerry if he did that. :laugh2:

This is probably what the chiefs thought when they let Gonzales go.

I would consider this. I don't have allegiance to players, only to the STAR. It's a business, one where you have to stay one step ahead of the pack. I would be all for a decision that ships Witten out as long as the Cowboys benefit from it.

Rightfully so. It's too early to give up on Jason.
Agreed. Witten has more than earned the season to work it out. We do need to see what we really have in Phillips and Hanna though.

You really think we'd get enough for Witten at this point to make up anywhere near what we'd lose?

Witten would be worth no more than a 4th or 5th at this point.

Witten is a TE. He isn't getting us enough in return to lose his contributions in the lockerroom, much less on the field. He isn't going anywhere.

He should get the week off or at least a greatly reduced role so he can use the bye week to get right and back to full-speed practices.

Phillips isn't going to give us far worse play than Witten the past couple weeks. No reason to risk further injury or suffer poor play.

6 weeks from now we'll probably see Witten back to making key 3rd down catches and providing solid blocking.

I was one of the few people anywhere who wanted to keep MartyB. I really valued him as a blocker.

Yea I'm ok with that as long as he( Witten) doesn't trump the younger players development. And of course, he continues to contribute at the high standard he's expected too. If and when that stops or starts to noticeably decline. I expect as a COWBOY fan, the Owner and coach to make the right decision for the team.

Madden can do pretty awful mind-warping things to oneself.

Witten is an outstanding blocker so it's not like he has absolutely NO value (assuming his catching ability regresses even further).

It sounds like a cliched excuse but I truly believe he still is just not 100% healthy

btw folks. Remember, Witten is injured. During that injury, he has had limited and sometimes no practice. I think you guys need to give the guy a break.

Besides, my earlier post still stands. You can't trade him.

what? he is

why do you think he is constantly lauded as one of the most, if not THE, most complete TE in the NFL?
