All 19 (18) other starters (there is a discrepancy as to whether Randel-El or Wilson, a low level FA signing was the "starter" and I can't find a definitive answer in a cursory search but that's almost irrelevant) were Pittsburgh draft choices.

Randle El was the starter, though Wilson was nearly as productive:

El: G-16 GS-15 REC:35 Yds:558 Avg.15.9 Lg: 63 TD: 1 Punt returns:44 yds: 448 avg: 10.2 lg:81 TD: 2 Rush: 12 yds: 73 avg:6.1 lg: 43
postseason: G:4 rec:12 yds:119 lg:20 avg:9.9 TD:1

Wilson: G: 16 GS: 1 Rec: 26 Yds:451 Avg:17.3 lg:46 TD: 0
postseason: G:4 rec:9 yds:216 lg:54 avg:24.0 TD:2

Quincy Morgan: G:16 GS:0 Rec:9 Yds:150 Avg:16.7 Lg:31 TD:2

Did you happen to notice your list included mostly Super Bowl losers? I didn't think that was the goal.

Remember, Dillon wasn't a Free Agent, the Patriots traded a pick for him (a second rounder if I remember correctly).

I comes out in the end that team's who are overly active in FA are seldom teams who end up with the Lombardi.

Pats 2001 team might have had 20+ free agents - are you serious?

They then followed up with key FA adds in Ted Washington, Traylor, Vrabel, Colvin, Harrison, Dillon (fa/trade), (punter) Miller

FA is a vehicle to upgrade talent. We have done about squat so far. Stop defending that please.

The 2001 Patriots are a perfect example of what I'm talking about. I hate to give you a history lessen on your favorite team but let's look at the starters from the Super Bowl. More than half were drafted by NE and some of their pickups were other teams' backups like Compton and Andruzzi or virtually unwanted players like Antwain Smith.

Again, it shows that teams who make a "splash" with "name" free agents rarely have success but teams that do their homework can pick up bargains who fit into their scheme better than they did at their previous stop.

And leave it to you to miss the literary device that is the thread title.

Dear Stanley,

Please stop clouding the board with logic, facts and level headed analogies.

Sincerely,

Also didn't mention that those teams were full of their own draftees. The players mentioned were supplemental. Who was Delhomme? Certainly no more known than a "Kosier", at the time.
