Don't think Barber healthy all year?

Guys:

I know Barber wasn't effective the last few games, but I don't think he was healthy all year. I remember the first two games he actually looked like an elite back, but after the quad injury he was never the same.

I think Barber is kind of a "self made" back that needs to be in shape and healthy to be effective. Remember he had: quad injury, broken thumb, and finally knee injury. I think all these injuries robbed him of the extra "juice" he normally has.

Note: particularily telling was one play midway in the season, he broke loose in the middle of the field and seemed to have no lift to take the play deep into the secondary. If fact he kind of stumbled and was tackled for a 10-15 yard gain.

I think he will be much better after off season. Question is? The injuries keep happening so can we count on him?

Thoughts?

JR

he took over as the #1 back in 2008 and got hurt. the same thing happened this season. he's not a good enough back to hold onto if he keeps getting hurt like a Brian Westbrook.

His punishing style will always cause injuries, besides you should see the other guys...:laugh2:

He wasn't the same after his injury in the 1st Giants game. He looked good before that game, then poof it was over.

He did not have the same burst and power- occasionally he could show it, but all too often he was unable to do it.

I really think he shouldn't try to be a feature back or #1 back because he has a tendancy to get injured ever since he started to do that. As a back up to Julius Jones he was fresh for his carries and was less prone to get injured. I think if they use Felix and Choice early and use Barber in his closer role, he'll be more effective and less injury prone.

This team did a disservice to Barber when they made him the primary back. He is better in a "sixth man" role because he brings energy and can punish a defense with fewer carries.

Sorry, but when you get paid like a top RB, you are expected to contribute like a top back.

He has not been worth the money he was paid on this deal he signed.

Quit making excuses.
Health is part of the evaluation of the player.
He has slowed. He doesn't break a lot of tackles anymore. And he has a hard time staying healthy.
He isn't a very good RB anymore. His physical style caused his skills to erode quickly. This isn't a shock - as many people predicted it.

He will be out of the league for sure in 3 years. Maybe less.

Can you think back at one time barber actually out ran the defense for a long td?

The only time I think is the Miami game. maybe the cards game his rookie year. He used to have decent speed back then. A good combination of power and speed.

Now He's all power and no speed. He's done if you ask me.

He doesn't even have power anymore. He goes down like the fix is in everytime he gets hit.

Yeah, I'm telling you, that extra 1.5 carries per game he gets from being the "starter" is killing him.... No wonder he gets injured....

C'mon folks get off Barber's back for once. He is what he is. A 7 million dollar featured power back that is injury prone, tip toes and celebrates 2 yard runs.

He blocks really well, so who cares if TC could be the more effective, cheaper and better all around back?

If we return Barber to his previous role, maybe he would better? A closer role at 600k a season would make him effective I bet!

He doesn't make anywhere near 7 million dollars and isn't scheduled to until the final years of his contract, which he will never, ever see.

2010: 3.86 M
2011: 4.25 M
2012: 5.75 M
2013: 6.25 M
2014: 7.00 M

Thanks I just thought the total off the top of my head was 7yr. 40+ million; still a lot a cash for his services.

Lost in all of this is the fact that Barber actually had a pretty decent year.

I remember how people used to love how intense he was and how he would celebrate even short gains. Now it's something he gets made fun of for?
