Don't Think We Will Draft Decastro

Here is my thinking:

We went hard after this OG from Carolina and signed him to a 4 year deal. That tells me the team sees him as more than depth. So, let's say he starts at one guard.

If you draft Decastro at 14 to start at the other guard you have effectively closed the door on Nagy and Arkin before they ever got started. Right or wrong, I think the teams sees alot in them and won't want to relegate them to career backups this early on.

My money says we draft pass rush in Round 1.

I think he can play OC as well though. Maybe he plays that for the Cowboys? Or, it may simply mean the end of Holland and Dockery as the team wants younger guys with more upside.

Not sure yet.

I dont see us sitting put if we're thinking decastro. Well trade bsck and get him other wise if we stay put at 14 we take a de

We need TWO guards.

Today's signing does not change our draft strategy at all.

thought nagy could also play center.

and know i read an article that said arkin wasn't activated last year because he's been learning the center position instead of playing guard. regardless, until we see the actual numbers (can't imagine they are huge for a part time starter) he could just be veteran competition for the young guys and depth if he can't win the job.

I'm not sure signing a guy whos been mostly a backup is any reason to pass on a player at that position.

Wow. Didn't know it was a 4 year deal. I think they signed him as a starting C but that's just speculation on my part.

I know they love Nagy at one OG spot. So there's still an unsettled spot at the other OG. I wouldn't rule DeCastro out but i do think they'd prefer a DL or OLB.

I hate that mentality. If you're sitting at 14 and the G is the clear cut best player, you take him. David Arkin and/or Bill Nagy shouldn't even enter the equation.

You say this as if it would be some horrible injustice. Arkin was a fourth round pick and Nagy was a seventh rounder who didnt even have a draft grade.

This. People wonder why we never have depth. It's because we are always one step away from prematurely promoting it.

My money is on we won't know who we will draft at 14 by the time the commish goes to the podium to start the process.

I'm sure we'll have a few targets, but we won't know where we are going at that time.

Great quote.

I agree, after today's signings it would seem that they go after pass rush and I'm thinking Fletcher Cox.

At one time our staff loved McQ and Brewster and others. SUPPOSEDLY.

Why anyone would think that we would pass on the best guard prospect in years because we have those two is smoking something that ain't tobacco.

And of course the fact that Arkin clearly is switching to guard means we have a small 7th rd pick at guard. A done Kosier. Holland- who is not a spring chicken. And now a guy that spent most of his career as a backup.

Our pick should either be DeCastro or Poe IMO. Poe is very intriguing because it would allow us to also improve at DE by moving Ratliff.

Problem is, we don't have anyone to fill Kenyon's spot at all also.

Saying Lissemore is the same as saying Nagy.

Guess we could use Spears to stand still after every snap, but is Holland any better on the OL??

This will get interesting as free agency ends...

That's what I was thinking. Even with the signing of our new Guard, DeCastro didn't slip off our board IMO. He can play center, and he is still worth drafting at 14 overall.
