If the Cowboys wanted Gregory on THEIR terms...then don't let him to get to free agency.

You let him get to free agency (not debating if this was justified or not)....but you let him get to free agency...then he is FREE...and they have to deal with him on HIS terms. It's not more complicated than that.

If they don't understand or like that....then they are in the wrong line of work. He was a FREE agent! And if you did not want him to be a FREE agent....then franchise him or extend him before he becomes a FREE agent!

This is the NFL. This is a BUSINESS. If you want to operate a mom and pop shop...then sell the team and open a nursery!

This more than anything is 1 in 100 reasons why the Jones family should not be running a NFL franchise. Times and things have changed...either change with them or get what you got. Players are businessman...and they SHOULD be!!!!!!!!!!!!! Because guess what....that is what the Jones family is.....BUSINESS people!!!!!!!!!

Because it was what it should never have been, personal. That's why Booger got involved, to save the day and play the "Luke, I am your father" card.

Booger thinks Gregory should have some blind loyalty to him, and he damn near did until the son showed up, but Booger failed to see that as a two-way street.

They've never learned the lesson and never will. The Niners, with the best team assembled in the league, began to dismantle it for a new team and in doing so let the stars go first, Montana, Rice and Lott but they planned on that. The Joneses do not look that far ahead. Aikman, Irvin and Woodson caught them unprepared.

I think we really never truly wanted him, otherwise..we tag him. That was either a gross miscalculation by the Jones family, or was all by design. Very strange.
I think they wanted the player who plays in games, but they also wanted to hedge against him not being able to play due to more suspensions in the future.

If the rumored last-minute changes they made to their contract offer to Gregory are true, I definitely do not blame him for leaving especially for a place like Denver.

That said, ignoring the last minute changes factor, I also do not blame the Cowboys for wanting to protect themselves and their salary cap against a player who has been suspended multiple times and may have it happen again in the future.

I look at his behavior in that playoff game and do not even tender an offer. Those were not ineffective penalties.

I definitely agree with this.

Today's NFL has changed considerably since the Cowboys last success in the 1990s and they have failed year after year to realize and adapt to that fact.

My strategy for running the team would be quite different than what the Cowboys do, but its their money so in their minds they know best.

Jerry had invested so much time and energy into RG, they wanted to see the payoff. But I applaud them for not giving him a stupid deal in order to keep him. Denver is giving out stupid deals left and right.
Yeah, but they are Super Bowl favorites now.

Would have thought the Jaylen Smith, Tyrone Crawford debacle of paying players before they’ve proven themselves would have convinced most it’s a bad approach. Gregory was the last player you would want to pay before proving himself. Hell, 16 1/2 career sacks… 6 season high he still hasn’t proven he’s worth what he was offered. Asking him not to get “suspended” again isn’t unreasonable. Good riddance!

I'm not mad ONE BIT that we didn't re sign Gregory. No loss what so ever. His replacement needs 6 sacks for the year and 17 tackles. Now Von Miller, THAT is what I wanted and disappointed with. That just isn't our wheelhouse though. :(

Tbh they couldve gotten RG if they sign him early, cheaper too. But I dont care good riddance.

You know, it's funny that when the Cowboys sign their own players to big contracts BEFORE allowing the player to "test the market", the front office gets roasted for overpaying and/or bidding against themselves.

But when the Cowboys let their players "test the market" and then ask for a chance to match an offer, then they should signed the player BEFORE they could "test the market".

What's next? We should have never draft a player we do not offer a second contract to?

If they wanted Gregory that bad like people said they should have franchised him and not Schultz. Could have had OJ Howard for half of what Schultz tag costs and then dealt with Gregory contract.

By invested so much "time and energy" do you mean the 2nd round pick they invested? The draft is a crap shoot....and in this case....it wasn't even a crap shoot...they KNEW what they were drafting. At anytime they could have cut him. It's not like they were PAYING him while he was suspended. And guess what? Had they cut him....someone else would have given him a chance. Just like teams have done for Josh Gordon and Aldon Smith. So the "time and energy" was because they wanted a payoff for the 2nd round pick they gave up. But once the conversation came down to REAL money...either they wanted him or not. And the minute they slipped....another team was there to swoop in.

After 30+ years they have ZERO business making these kinds of mistakes. You are not ENTITLED to have him on YOUR terms once he hit free agency! The sense of ENTITLEMENT is killing this franchise. Jerry has given us so many instances where we get insight on how he thinks....I will never forget him stating that a state of the art stadium would elevate the level of play of the Cowboys.....but completely ignoring this same state of the art stadium will elevate how hard the opposition will COMPETE on that stage and stadium! They ONLY look at the NFL through the ENTITLEMENT of silver and blue glasses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
