They don’t find a way. They don’t know how to build a defense. They have no idea. Hence why they have used one first rounder on DT in 2 decades.

The problem is scheme, execution and talent. It doesn't have to be just one.

I'm still of the mindset that I don't mind being a buyer before the trade deadline ... for the right price. We know the Joneses will not do much more than pay their own in the offseason, so the only juice they have for improving the roster is the trades and draft. Can't fix all the holes in the draft because it's hit and miss. Some teams with players on the last year of their contracts will be looking to move on for draft capital. I'd rather spend a second on a proven vet than possibly waste it.

With how poorly we seem to have fallin in recent drafts, I am open to your idea.

I just think it's hard enough to hit on first-rounders, much less any pick after that round. I mean, we could end up with a Sam Williams with our second-round pick or we could find a team near the bottom of the league near the trade deadline who wants to dump a player on the last year of his salary rather than give him a big deal.

One I'm keeping an eye on is Trey Hendrickson. If the Bengals collapse without Burrows, Cincy might look to ship Hendrickson for picks after bumping up his salary for this season but not reaching a long-term deal with him. Of course, Jerry just avoided paying one DE, so hard to say he'd pay a premium for another one. Plus, Hendrickson has just entered his 30s and it appears there may be a lot of suitors for him if Cincy decides to deal him, might drive his cost to a first-rounder.

the LBs suck. the CBs are underwhelming including bland and do we even have safties? this defense being this bad is more than couple of DE or DT players away from being good. we were able to generate some pressure last night but Love was able to get rid of the ball because LBs couldn't play and CBs gave up big plays. tighten those up and those pressures translate to TOs, throw aways or sacks.
