It's probably too far back for many of you but once upon a time you really never had to worry about our defense.
First off our head coach Tom Landry was a defensive-minded coach playing defense for the Giants in his career.

Secondly we had Ernie stautner one of the toughest men to ever play the game 14-year career on the defensive line at 6 ft 1 and 230 lb Hall of Fame.
He was a United States Marine that fought in world war II in the battle of Okinawa 82-day battle at 17 years old.

He coached the defense from I believe 1966 to the late 80s that is why we had the continuity and the players that made up the Doomsday defense.

This man was a leader of men after all he'd been through in his military career and NFL football career here's a guy who could judge character heart athleticism and put the right men on the field.

Now we change defensive coordinators like you change your shoes.
There is no respect here because the coaches don't have the credentials to command it.
Rebuilding the defense starts with a credible coach that the players fear and respect just like they did Ernie stautner.
He would have never tolerated a punk like trayvon Diggs the guy would have been gripped up and thrown out of the locker room.

Until you get a real defensive coach that knows football players when he sees them and can draft the right players and Coach them we will be stuck with what we continue to have a horrible defense

Yep no response and that's okay.

Doomsday defense was built by men with incredible character in a Time when being a football player and not a marketer was important in the game.

Now it's all about marketing your brand

Doomsday was stacked with leaders from the coaching staff to all the players.

Now I challenge anyone to find a leader on this defense or anything even close.

Not only did doomsday have tough players and leaders but they were intelligent.

This has to be one of the dumbest groups of players I have ever seen assembled continual pre-snap penalties and personal fouls.

The modern football offense has passed Mattyboy's long tooth defense. Even Landry was too stubborn to get rid of the flex once it became obsolete. Mattyboy has the same problem. To stubborn to realize his defense is obsolete.

Thanks for the post, I wasn't alive during those Landry years but I've read up and watch plenty of highlights. You are correct about that doomsday defense! Hard nose no BS to the max.

Flus is not a hard nose coach, he looks a mess on the sidelines.... wth is he even doing in practice???

OSA is suppose to be a leader but he gets punked on the field way too often.

Randy White had Ernie Stautner induct him in HOF. Troy Aikman had Norv Turner. Are those the last OC/DC picked for HOF inductions?

As the rules change the defenses have to change with them.

But some things stay the same a physical defense with a big powerful defensive line usually travels well.
Might makes right on defense and we are an undersized group.

Also having intelligent guys that are football smart don't jump off sides don't lose their temper and get penalties that enable opponents to continue drives is key.
A coach that can put his players in the right position to succeed and that gets them to buy in and respect him is most important

We have none of this

Agreed brother I don't understand how you could have all these guys in practice and not know where your weaknesses are and attend to them.

Beyond that I think these guys are not buying into his system and are just short of rebelling

He's a decent rotational player but not what I would call Aaron Donald haloti Nagta or even dontari Poe.
You have to be a little special to lead

I know Ernie stautner is in the Hall of Fame but did not know Norv Turner had been inducted.

I don't understand the coaches not making these changes fast enough when its as clear as day to casuals.....Get creative for once, where the heck is this simulated pressure they were talking about, and don't tell me those dumb blitzes flus call is the simulated pressure. 99% of the time the blitzer is held in check by a rb or te... no creativity what so ever.

They definitely look like they aren't buying in, there is no aggression from that side of the team........ just a bunch of softies out there making bad business decisions.

its just gonna get worse

Definitely no sense of urgency they all look like they're waiting for somebody else to make the tackle.
Like nobody wants to stick their nose in there and make the hit.

The linebacker play is arguably the worst I have ever seen.
Shemar James looks like he has potential but he is at least an off-season in the weight room away as he's the size of a big safety at this point.
Just not big enough to anchor and be a run stopper

Yikes

Come on Coogs you got more than that.
There's got to be some thoughts in there you're dying to expound on
You got a little angry nobody responded to your post, I've been there before, hard to believe, but I've been there!!
