49ers signed head coach Mike Singletary to a four-year, $10 million contract.
FOX's Jay Glazer reported it would be a five-year deal, but the Niners and Singletary settled on a contract that will take him through 2012. Asked late Sunday if he's decided offensive coordinator Mike Martz's future with the club, Singletary said "No, not 100%." If Singletary wants what's best for Shaun Hill, he'll keep Martz around. Having to learn a completely new offense could potentially create a steep learning curve for his QB.
Don't get me wrong, I am 150% for there being more Black-American coaches in the NFL and all sports, and few are more deserving than Singletary. But why is it that every team has to interview a minority candidate, but isn't forced to interview a White candidate?

I thought this was odd because the Rams had tried to work out a deal with Hasslett earlier in the year but were told that because of the Rooney Rule they could not.

What say you?

Didnt Seattle name a white coach in waiting, Jim Mora Jr??
Perhaps there's a loophole? I honestly don't know the in's and out's of the Rooney Rule. I just found it odd that Haslett couldn't be named HC but Singletary could.

Yes. The loophole of the rule is if you have an agreement to hire a coach form on your own staff.

We may have the same deal with Jason Garrett. Indy has it with Jim Caldwell.

I pray that doesn't happen with us.
