Well we finally made it to the finished line and have another draft in the books.

Landing Downs was epic. One of my favorite prospects over the last few years who fills a monster need in the backend and can be the face of the defense the next few years. I didnt think we needed to move up to land one of the best defenders in the class but we went up 1 to get our guy. Him or Bain would have been there at 12.

Lawrence with our 2nd 1st was meh for me. Every year a top 10 ish player falls to around 20 and this year it was Lemon who would have been clear cut BPA. The trade down to add picks softened the blow but still a reach IMO.

Love the Barham pick. Honestly did not know a ton about him but after watching him and listening to our analysts he is someone that can be a poor mana Arvell Reese. His physicality and violence he plays with jumps off the tape and our defense need that. Good value on consensus board.

The 4th round was really frustrating for me. Plenty of top 80ish talents on the board and they got cute IMO. Project OT, injury prone CB and a 1 dimensional DLmen.

All in all I would give it a B- bc Downs saves the whole draft. I will out some trust in CP in hopes that he is getting the right pieces needed to run his defense the way he wants.

Thoughts?

Did you have any concerns about Lemon seeming a little nutty and do you think that’s why he dropped.

He might be a different personality but I dont think anything was flagged.

The talent is legit IMO.

I had Tate going earlier than Lemon or Jordyn Tyson and it proved out . He catches everything.

Barham is my favorite pick realizing Downs is the dude hands down. Watching Barham's movement and strength caught my attention more the the higher picks. Having inside info on Lawrence gives me confidence over Bain and Mesydore. Both with bad feet.

Downs was the perfect pick. We needed a smart difference-maker in the secondary so badly after last year's debacle, and we got one.

I'm optimistic on Lawrence. I'm a measurables dude when it comes to DEs, and he's got the measurables. I don't love the pick - I think we picked Lawrence at the top of his range, and I would've preferred to draft Hood or Faulk, but Lawrence was sensible.

Barham was kind of a weird pick. He's a measurables project at Edge, with an XFL floor but a reasonable path to developing into a starter. It's not like he has a 40 time and nothing else - he put up some good pass rush tape. I think his talent definitely justifies a late 3rd, but I don't like that we're gambling on projects for defense when there were safer picks who could contribute sooner.

Overton is a meh stuffer, who probably won't be on the roster in two seasons. And I'll be frank, I haven't even watched tape on our other two 4th round picks.

I'd give this draft an A, just because the Downs pick was awesome and we didn't do anything crazy stupid after that.

I think Dallas likes Barham as a LB to add to the off season addition of Winters plus what was in house which was thin given Overshowns history so the Barham pick may prove to be very valuable .

And the front seven now has Downs and a veteran like Thompson backing them and the corners . I see instant improvement

I think he's a punk and I think that's why he fell. Teams have seen this play far too many times with these diva WRs. Not surprised it was Filthydumpia who made the move to grab him. He'll fit in perfectly in that dump city. I wouldn't be surprised if he is more of an issue than AJ Brown.

Overall I gave the draft an A- grade. Grading the players on ability, when they were taken and what we gave up or got back also factors in their draft grades.

We all know Downs was the home run pick that will hopefully help the entire defense. Giving up 2 late 5ths was a no brainer to me. He's an A+ pick IMO.

I like Lawrence, he was a pet cat coming into the draft. I liked the fact that the media wasn't talking about him much. IMHO, he has the freak athletic skills to be very disruptive coming off the edge. I think he is going to surprise a lot of people. Getting two 4ths from the igglets was icing on the cake to me. I gave that pick a A-

Barham
was another pet cat. His pass rush tape is good. His coverage tape, not so much. But I think he fits a need for a 3/4 OLB who may or may not blitz or drop. That goes to CP's scheme of keeping them guessing as to where they are coming from. A solid B+ pick IMO.

Shelton is a good 4th rd pick for OT. He isn't going to win a starting job, but he's solid and versatile. C+ pick
I will admit I don't know a ton about Devin Moore. He had been injured a bit, but seems to be a good CB when he's been healthy. Big, fast, long and athletic. I think taking a mid-4th flyer on a guy who has the floor of back up who contributes on ST but has a ceiling of a possible future starter is a good choice. C+ pick
LT Overton is basically a base strong side run stuffing 3/4 DE and we didn't really have any so I can understand why he was taken. C- pick

I know you would have been pumped if the haul was Downs / McCoy!

I thought he was a borderline lock at 20.

-Getting Downs at 11, was similar when we landed Lamb. Neither player should of fallen that far. Fills that important role of the big nickel in our D.
-Outside the top 10, teams always draft for bpa at a need position. Lawrence is more of a traits pick, but was clearly a main target by the team. Believe his has the better traits, where Ez had the better production. We should have similar 1st yr expectations.
-Barham pick in my opinion will make or break this draft class. You see a player on tape being super physical and possesses that elite burst. I wonder if he will be similar to Marist playing too out of control. Remind me of that Washington LB from Carolina.
-I understand the frustration with the 4th rd picks, but they all you drafted with specific roles in mind-Shelton isn't a project Tackle, Saw him a ton with Penn State, might be better then Thomas right now. Team needed to add another Tackle to the group. Moore is often injured, but many thought he was a high 3rd rd talent, he is a Seattle type of corner. Overton is that 4i/5T that will kick inside in the nickel. Many think he will offer much pass rush as an interior lineman, who is a powerful run defender.
-I would I like to draft Kyle Lewis or another linebacker, but I understand those 3 selections.

WRs are divas...I imagine this is getting blown out of proportion.

Most fans were fine with GPs personality once they saw him play.
Everyone is free to value it as they wish.

Some teams took him off their board and other teams didn’t.

I give a A-

Downs was a Top 5 talent.

Lawrence is going to surprise. His RAS rating I believe is with Elite pass rushers Parsons, etc.

Barham was a surprise to me. I figured anyone from Michigan the Cowboys would avoid after Taco,Mazi, and Schoonmaker.

Moore & Shelton are fine. Shelton has high upside. Moore is tall and fast enough

Overton I hope proves me wrong. He seems like a career backup like Justin Bullard.

Antonio Smith backup , but can contribute.

I understand the picks it is just frustrating when they make multiple picks with guys that were rated quite a bit higher still on the board.

You must be a riot at party’s, real happy go lucky guy you are!

If they would do a better job in fa, then they could go bpa. What I did like was for the 1st time they actually look like they have a plan on defense.

i really wanted keionte scott, especially as late as he went. may have been semi redundant with downs, but imo that’s a huge plus considering the how much we’re looking to rely on the big nickel
