Draft Analysis

Agree with the entire post 100%. Downs and Barham great picks. Lawrence, who I like, is nonetheless a project and probably wont have much of an impact this year.

Didn't care for the 4th round at all

I didnt know anything about Lawrence before 3 days from the draft, seems teams liked him more than draft pundits but i can see Barham being a fan favorite by the way he plays the game.

Well we finally made it to the finished line and have another draft in the books.

Landing Downs was epic. One of my favorite prospects over the last few years who fills a monster need in the backend and can be the face of the defense the next few years. I didnt think we needed to move up to land one of the best defenders in the class but we went up 1 to get our guy. Him or Bain would have been there at 12.

Lawrence with our 2nd 1st was meh for me. Every year a top 10 ish player falls to around 20 and this year it was Lemon who would have been clear cut BPA. The trade down to add picks softened the blow but still a reach IMO.

Love the Barham pick. Honestly did not know a ton about him but after watching him and listening to our analysts he is someone that can be a poor mana Arvell Reese. His physicality and violence he plays with jumps off the tape and our defense need that. Good value on consensus board.

The 4th round was really frustrating for me. Plenty of top 80ish talents on the board and they got cute IMO. Project OT, injury prone CB and a 1 dimensional DLmen.

All in all I would give it a B- bc Downs saves the whole draft. I will out some trust in CP in hopes that he is getting the right pieces needed to run his defense the way he wants.

Thoughts?
I gave us an A-, you are not going to get 7 starters out of a draft. half of them won't make the team, not only us, but almost every NFL team.

getting Downs was key. we needed a star, we needed an all pro type player. we needed a difference maker and he was rated to be top defender and top 3 type player. getting him at 11 was key. a steal. you want impact player and he is that an more.

I think the approach to DE is throw as many bodies of different type at it as possible. Lawrence, Eze, Gray and so on. they will probably rotate a lot of players through and show multiple alignments, perhaps on 3rd and long have all three of those on the field with Q.

if we end up with two other starters and major contributors out of the draft we have done well.

You must be a riot at party’s, real happy go lucky guy you are!
I find it interesting that something about my post somehow makes you think I'm not?
Must have struck a nerve of some igglets troll

He might be a different personality but I dont think anything was flagged.

The talent is legit IMO.
Its hard to find a truly talented WR who is not a diva
BUT the concerns with Lamon were beyond that and several teams took him off their boards
ignoring that is what causes drafts to fail

Downs was my top pet cat and I was incredibly happy we got him without giving much up
The rumors are rife that a couple of teams were looking at trading up to get him and for once the FO did the right thing
Lawrence I think was a good if not great pick; he might have fallen more and he might not have.
Barham I like
Shelton is a guy they clearly hope can immediately be a solid back up and perhaps develop into more
Overton is a solid pick
Moore is iffy because of his injury history
the rest meh

Overall this draft AT THIS TIME I give a Solid B

Downs incredible pick, my dream has been for Dallas to draft a safety for years - great pick

everyone else --- snooze fest draft --- just boring, reaching for a bunch of NEEDS, bunch of development players

C-

Things that would have netted a higher grade, don't let eagles take Lemon for two bench players and yet everyone thinks that was a genius move... awful
Take Dillon Thieneman with your pick 20, don't trade back and take Lemon (both are just easy picks)
Round 3 should have been Jermod McCoy, corner is glaring need in Dallas (reminder we had the 32nd ranked pass defense last year). If you're going to bet on Revel Jr., which I loved that pick, then why not bet on McCoy.
Lastly, injured Florida DB over Muhammed. Awful (Muhammed already has tape again Odunze, Jeremiah Smith). How did we miss this??

Yea I feel like they did the traditional picks for need or "these are our guys."

The part that is frustrating to me is there were similar defenders available with a lot if the picks that were higher graded players.
