Draft Countdown's Newest Mock Draft

C Woodson is 6'1 and Champ is 6'0. Just to throw out a few more of those bigger cb's that were/are considered elite in the league.

I am talking weight- and nmadi does not play that heavy-word is he is right around 200. Now if peterson's natural weight is 220 then that is a problem. The little guys will be able to mess him up- like Desean Jackson.

It might be the natural weight he played in college. That does not mean it is the weight he will play in the NFL.

The question is if he is dedicated enough to maintain a weight or will he constantly get fined by the team that drafts him for not maintaining the weight they want him at.

It is not unusual, as I am sure you know, for college players to change their weights after going into the pros...some more weight some less.

Normally if a player stays dedicated to weight and diet regime they can keep a weight down.

I think it is probably more common for players having more of a problem keeping weight on due to the rigors of training camps, practices and games.

I will say this, if you are a CB and weight 220lbs, either A, you are going to have a problem covering the good NFL WRs, or B. You are a freakishly athletic person.

Odds are it's more likely he will have problems covering the better WRs in the NFL at 220lbs or he will be forced to drop some of that weight if he is to play CB in this league.

The only other options is switching to safety at that weight.

Yeah, whoever drafts him will have the coaches decide where they want to play him and what weight they want him at.

That seems to be a given.

The question then becomes if he is dedicated enough to stick to that plan/weight that is set out for him.

Well dedication and discipline SHOULD always be a key factor in any pick we take.

What the heck is natural weight? These guys are professional athletes.

And news flash, Desean Jackson messes up a lot of dudes. "Word Is"? There's word on what Asomugha's weight is on game day? Is he not 6'2" either? Let's hear you prove that one.

Really. You think all these guys walk around at their playing weight during the off season?

No, but I don't see what that has to do with a "natural weight".

But I will say that an athlete like a corner shouldn't ever get fat.

What said anything about getting fat?

Not sure if you're just trying to be argumentative?...

But if a guy isn't at his playing weight, he's almost always above it, which would come from getting fat. Players don't exactly add muscle during a football season.

So what did you mean when you asked if they walked around at their playing weight during the offseason? I don't get it.

I don't think we are having the same conversation. :laugh2:

Okay, but I don't see how. I'm agreeing with burmafd that there's pretty much a natural playing weight for these guys when they're doing the typical weight training and are in condition. Some guys are just bigger framed and heavier muscled and 220 might be their natural, in shape weight. In that case, he likely won't have the agility to play corner in the NFL unless he's really some kind of freak.

And if anything, a college kid isn't going to get smaller. His natural playing weight is usually only going to go up.

I guess it's possible that Peterson (or anyone) is so gifted he could play a little overweight in college and could lean down in the pros, but I don't think that's typical.

Well that's all you had to say. I disagree with whatever follows. :D

He says he's going to run at 6'1" 208, I will wait and see if he does just that. I have yet to see or hear of him actually stepping on a scale and having someone verify it reads 220, although that could certainly be the case.

The funny thing is I've felt like Peterson was extremely overrated, I still don't believe he'll be off the board in the first 3 or 4 picks.

The only players I ever hear about playing above their listed weights are lineman. Never heard of a rb or db getting fat or heavy during the season. The amount of running they do coupled with less strength training causes most players to lose muscle/weight during the season.

Anyway, I bet Peterson is somewhere around 210 come the combine. Nnamdi Asomugha was 213 when he came out and he was an inch taller btw.

And if God were to let him somehow fell to us  , he wouldn't be matched up against the smallers Jackson types anyway. He'd be glued to the Maclin's and the Manninham's of the Beast and the Megatrons and Dez Bryants of the league.

Cameron Jordan is way too low.

Derek Sherrod is a sure top 20 pick and could go as high as 9, imo. Wright didn't even list him in round 1. Sherrod will be one of the first 2 OTs to be drafted, I predict.
