Draft Credit

The credit goes to the other teams in front of us for screwing up our original draft plans and forcing us to draft the best players

No one would have any basis to complain had we drafted Surtain. All reports are that he is being just as impressive. Now if you had drafted Horn instead, the report card wouldn't be looking as good right now.

Name another team where fans debate how much credit a billionaire owner should get for a draft pick.

Meanwhile, some still don't understand what I mean when I say this organization is dysfunctional.

just so happens that horn was their #1 target

My favorite part is that we traded down with the Eagles, and both teams almost certainly ended up with the same guy they would have gotten anyway (I'm assuming the Giants would still take the offer from the Bears).

Shouldn’t we wait on doling out the credit until this team actually does something? I like Lamb and Parsons a bunch. They are super talented players. But until this team starts doing something of value in the playoffs, there’s no “credit” to give out.

Very possibly true.

CeeDee Lamb
Micah Parsons

Two years in a row we didn't use a first round draft pick for a need. And now these two players are arguably the best two young players on our team. That's how you are supposed to draft. Who gets the credit?

CD was a no brainer. I don't give people a lot of credit for picking up money in the street.

Good point. They have come out and said they would have drafted one of the CBs if they had been available.

Honestly teams are always in need everywhere. Its usually wide open for most teams.

As far as need goes, I think fans fall into the trap of focusing on the most glaring of needs and ignoring needs elsewhere. In reality WR was a need in 2020 and LB in 2021. We start 3 WR's, lost our 3rd starter in FA and didn't have an adequate replacement. With LB, both of our starters were probably playing elsewhere in 2022, and that was before drafting Parsons

The most glaring needs those years were probably DT in 2020 and CB and S in 2021. But WR and LB were definitely needs as well

The Denver Broncos

They drafted Jeudy instead of Lamb two picks ahead of the Cowboys in the 2019 draft. They drafted Patrick Surtain which left the Cowboys with the option of taking Parsons in the 2020 draft.

Technically, both were needs, just not our highest needs. We drafted Lamb after losing our third receiver Cobb in FA. We had Cedrick Wilson and Noah Brown, but neither of those had done much to warrant any faith.

Then, this year, we had two starting linebackers (Jaylon and LVE) and signed a nickel linebacker (Neal). Our third starting LB retired and our top backup left in FA.

Judging the Cowboys drafts is easy.. All the bad players were picked by Jerry.. all the good ones were picked by someone else.. McClay, Stephen, McCarthy, Spalding, Micky Spagnola, .. anybody but Jerry.
Even Jerry gets lucky once in a blue moon.
