suppose the dolphins have 3 players at the top of their draft board who they rate equally. they would prefer to drop down to the third spot and pay less for one of those three players.

however, the fins get no takers, and so they let their 10 minutes expire. now, the rams are on the clock. if the rams make a selection, is that player considered the 1st overall pick. is the player entitled to 1st overall pick money?

the rams cry foul. they don't want the 1st selection and the monetary obligation that goes with it.

meanwhile, the fins have three cards in their hand... waiting to rush to the podium when the time is right to make their selection.

Maybe all of the first 21 skip the pick and we can nab McFadden.

The players agent will still demand the same money. What I don't get is why teams think they have to pay more than what someone else paid last year. Negotiate with the 3 players you want and draft the one you make the best deal with. Baseball does it all the time, with the best players falling because of monetary demands.

That is a wild thought--I don't know the correct answer, however, I bet the NFL would come down hard on teams doing that on purpose......integrity of the league or something.

Haha, pretty far fetched for the dolphins to let the time expire when they are the #1 pick and have had since the end of the season to decide on who they are picking.

Yeah I don't think they're going to let the time expire. It's not out of the question, we've all seen it happen a couple of times, albiet by accident I suppose, but I doubt that Bill is going to have that happen.

The agent for the player the Rams chose would argue that his guy deserves #1 overall money. The agent for the player the Fins chose would argue that his guy deserves #1 overall money.

It seems like Phillip Rivers' agent was using that type of argument when Eli Manning was drafted by the Chargers and then traded to NY.

let's say that you are the general manager of the fins, and you know that the three players you covet are not being sought after by the rams... why wouldn't you let the time expire? there's no down side for you.
