1. Pro bowler, immediate starter
2. Quality starter, starter by end of year
3. Solid starter, starter by year 3
4. Starter, quality depth by year 3
5. Depth, Role player
6. Flyer
7. Flyer

Be happy that any player taken is productive. Too many guys are straight busts, including 1st rounders.

I agree with this. This what is realistically ideal for each round. To get most out of rookie contracts. Some exceed and some fail to meet expectations.

Your missing the second 4th rounder.

Josh Norman, Richard Sherman, and Orlando Scandrick were all 5th rounders.

Great players can be had anywhere.

And that's called rising above expectations.

See an expectation is something you have before the result.

I'm hoping #3 will be a starter at the end of year 1 and beginning of year 2. Of course, I'm a CSU grad homer and watched him play for two years. LOL

With this team its
#1 project
#2 suspended, injured, or both
Lol

This year though I think LVE is a project I think the guys in rounds 2 and 3 should contribute immediately

I don't see LVE being ready at all. It wouldn't shock me if Conner and Gallup make a bigger impact this season than him. '

They can be....but doesn't mean that you are guaranteed to get one. Those guys are the anomaly.

Give me an example.

A pretty good recent example would be Jake Matthews for Atlanta. Not a pro bowler, but a good player none the less.

If he's too recent, Brandon Graham has never made a pro bowl and was picked 13th. Kevin Zeitler was also the highest paid guard up until this season and has never been to a pro bowl.

Here is the round by round contributions of Dallas Cowboys drafted between 2000 and 2009

Number of seasons in the league:

1 9.25
2 6.91
3 6.38
4 5.43
5 4.78
6 4.20
7 4.53

Years as a starter:

1 5.50
2 3.82
3 3.38
4 2.00
5 1.22
6 1.40
7 0.73

Games played

1 126.88
2 90.82
3 73.88
4 58.71
5 51.33
6 45.00
7 46.27

Pro Bowl Seasons:

1 2.25
2 0.55
3 1.50
4 0.07
5 0.00
6 0.07
7 0.27

Obviously the sample size is too small to make solid conclusions and the hope is that the current management is doing a better job. However, there is sufficient information to conclude that there is too wide a disparity between the OP expectations and reality.

I suppose I could do an analysis on the entire league, that would be interesting.....but I'm too tired tonight.

It takes a lot to ignore how badly we drafted between 2000 and 2009. Including 2009 especially helps skew the numbers poorly.

Honestly, I really don't care about draft status. I hold every player to the same standard. It does drive me crazy for fans to hate a player because he isn't living up to his draft spot, like it was his choice to be drafted there. Or hating on player because of their contract, like anyone would say "nah, reduce that by a couple mill, I don't think I am worth that". Those are not things to hate on a player about. Now,if they aren't working hard, doing the things they need to do to be the best at their position, that is what matters, and that holds true for me regardless of their draft position or the contract they signed.
