22. Dallas Cowboys (from Cleveland) - Malcolm Kelly, WR, Oklahoma °
Terrell Owens is 34, and he is entering the final year of his contract with the Cowboys. Compound that with the fact that Terry Glenn turns 34 in July, and it would seem that WR should be a top priority for Dallas.
Going first round for a wideout has not been Dallas' style in recent years, but with a talented player like Kelly available, the team may opt to go that route this year. At 6'4" 220, Kelly has prototype size, and while his 4.55 speed isn't world beater, he has the ability to gain separation just by leaping. With a year to work slowly into the system, Kelly could be primed to take over a starting slot in 2009.
28. Dallas Cowboys - James Hardy, WR, Indiana °
Hardy is 6'6" and posted a 4.48 at the combine, faster than the previously listed mid 4.5 range for him. Moreover, he caught passes there thrown at him from all directions, looking great. With his size, he would make for a great bridge in Dallas to eventually fill the spot that Terrell Owens holds now.
Not for nothing, but if Kelly was there at #22 we had BETTER take him, and if HArdy is there at #28, I say WHY NOT, especially if the top corners are off the board since we can get some good corners in round 2 and 3.
Owens is 34, or whatever, beyond him we have Crayotn who's a #3, so why not take Hardy and Kelly, it takes a couple years before W.R.'s break out in the nfl, USUALLY not till their 3rd year, which is when T.O. should be DONE!
Plus in the meantime, they pair with T.O. and with T.O. being a big W.R., we add Kelly at 6'-4 and Hardy at 6'-5 creating big mismatches!
I wouldn't mind this draft at all, its NOT gonna happen that we draft two W.R.'s in round 1, But would I hope we get ONE of those W.R.'s to groom for the future, and getting Romo more weapons is never a bad thing!
How about this draft?
1A) Malcolm Kelly (would be a STEAL if he lasted this long)
1B) James Hardy (would give us BOOKEND W.R.'s for next decade with Romo)
2) R.B. Jamaal Charles
3) C.B. Justin King
4) C.B. Zach Bowman
Would anyone really have a problem if this is how our draft went in the 1st 4 rounds?
That would add some WOW to our offense for sure and give us our skill positions to grow with Romo and all our skill position players would be set for Romo's entire career meaning for the rest of Romo's career, all we have to do is add add to the O-line and defense!
With King and Bowman, we get two very good prospects and either can step in for Reeves roll and one will take over for Henry the following year.
TWO W.R.'s in round 1 is overkill, and will never happen, but if the draft worked out like above, I'd be doing backflips for weeks!
