Is it more important to use high picks to build great lines of scrimmage first or great weapons first? It depends in my view based on draft availability and team makeup.

The Cowboys do not have a definitive strategy because they are so reactive. It’s funny because Jerry actually does have the job security that would allow for the long game of a slow build instead of the fast turnaround demands by virtually every other franchise.

This is not an either/or question… If you have a steady running game, it should lead to an effective deep passing game. And yes… The opposite is true. Again, it’s not either/or… Good teams have both as real threats

It's been clear since the day Schooty was hired the Cowboys want a dominant running game. Starting with his hire, them the hiring of assistant coaches, then last night was further proof.
yes now they need to continue with a RB that is good, and then a WR or something else?

We just need to get an RB now in this second or 3rd round.

its not one or the other.....its both

..the offense has to pressure the defense to defend the whole field. all 9 areas (short, middle, deep), (left, middle, right). you need a strong running game to force the defense to respect the run. that didn't exist with the cowboys past couple of years, thus they often dropped 7 into coverage, which takes away the passing lanes. a strong running game, forces the defense to play closer to LOS, dedicate more resources closer to line to stop the run. by the same token, then that should open up passing game, but if you can't go deep and use the whole field, then they don't worry about that as much and can just again, make you one dimentional.

and its always about down and distance. if you can't run. then you are always in 2nd, 3rd and long and its easy to defend. if you can't pass, then they stop the run, regardless of who your RB is, and then they can easily stop the pass.

balance is key.

You can get both through a strong oline.

Making teams respect the run opens up deep shots *without* having to draft an all star deep threat. The #2 gets single coverage if, like us, we already have an all star #1 who demands double coverage.

Gallup was a 1000+ WR "deep threat" because he got single coverage. People mistook him for a #1. Not me. Same with Harper. Not a 1. A deep threat because there were bigger threats on the field that defenses had to pay attention to.

Kinda need an explosive deep passer to actually accomplish that, so I’m gonna go with the steady run game
Dak throws a nice deep ball now. He didn't early in his career. He was actually bad at it. But now he's good at it.

We should find ways to isolate Turpin on a side of a field. No defense would want to double him, but isolated coverage of a guy that quick who also has deep speed is a problem. He could hurt you short or long.

They need both but the front office creates so many holes by not doing anything last year in their secret rebuild that they are too far behind now
every other franchise.
