Draft priorities

I don't understand. You're basing his ability to play LT on the fact that he was drafted top 10? If anything, that should clue you into the fact that being taken in the 1st round doesn't mean you're going to be an all-pro good LT.

Who would spenda top 10 pick on a RT? That is a position that that can be played by any NFL tackle. To be a good LT is a rare thing. That is why Flo is going to get paid lotsa money. RT don;t get that kind of money.

I gotta believe that a a top 10 pick is projected to be a LT.

So, can Colombo make the move?

What about Colombo? Wasn't he a top 10 pick by the Bears? I am sure they didn't take him that early to play RT. Can he make the transition?

I gotta tell ya, the Giants pass rush is scary without a good LT.

Colombo was picked in the 20s if I remember correctly. And judging by his footwork I'd say no way he can play LT. If he was a viable LT he would have signed for a lot more than the two year deal he got from us last time.

Thanks. I thought it was something like that, but was hoping for better news.

Columbo may not be athletic enough to play LT but no one would question his intensity or toughness! He just be the nastiest lineman on the roster.

I think Free may be the long-term solution at LT but I would expect growing pains initially.

Oh yeah, the right side of our line is plain mean.

Big picture..........Jerry Jones has stated he will never enter "salary cap hell" again.......

I think the philosophy is to consistently meter and rotate the contracts to younger players........and let the coaches coach.......

at some point ya gotta take the risk and move on.......of bigger need is the center to call blitz protect paks

Romo can buy alot of time vrs. a Brady type......but gotta have wr's that actually catch the rock......finish routes

With Bledsoe in there..........Flo looked like a disposable Scott towell

I agree that the loss of them wouldn't have changed the plans but with Hamlin getting the Franchise tag then there is no need to worry about that with him anyway. He's here for no less than one more year and I'd imagine within the next week to 10 days we get a long term deal done with him.

The consensus on the board seems to believe that Flos replacement is on the roster. So what past that do ya'll think are top priorities?

IMO top priority should be reenforcing the secondary followed by a back who can compliment Barber.

Well, with Hamlin getting franchised, Flo is very likely gone. But how many Tackles are they gonna draft? They used a 3rd and a 4th on that position last year. I consider those premium picks. Now, Marten looks to be strictly a RT, but Free is a LT and they've invested 2 years in the development of McQusitan. I'd prefer they find out what they got with these guys rather than use one of their first 3 picks on a Tackle.

The Draft priorities imo are: CB, WR, and RB. In that order. You have to have a minimum of 3 quality corners on the roster. I currently see 1.5. The half is for Henry's age and injury history. WR needs addressed because Owens will be 35 in December and Crayton, Hurd, Austin are likely no more than #3 wideouts. Gotta have a young guy there. I have no idea what Stanback is, but even if he's good enough to be a #2, they still need someone to replace Owens probably within the next 2 years. Draft a guy this year and he might be ready to do that.

RB must be addresses because if Barber would go down, they have absolutely nothing behind him.

Only if I had a left handed QB. :laugh2:

McQ was a 7th and Free a 4th. Correct?

Yes...that is right. I'm shocked that Free made it past the 2nd round and I was happy as heck that we got him in the 4th.

I'm not saying we need a 1st rd OT...just throwing out a stat I found interesting.

If we do lose Flo I do think we need to add another quality OT on day one. For example if Free starts then I'd like to see McQ get a serious shot at LG...I think he could be good there. That would mean we have a need at a solid swing OT. Maybe that's a vet, but landing someone like Sam Baker is not a bad thing either...even though I want CB, WR, and RB before that...

Baker may be available at #28. Pick a WR with #22, and go cb in the second round. Maybe trade our day two picks to move up in the second, or to get an extra third. RB can be got in the third. We are only looking for a backup there.

In Dallas franchise history has only once used a 1st rd pick on any O-lineman

:star: Dooms, if I'm not mistaken, I believe that 1st round OL we took was Howard Richards from Missouri, and he really didn't do enough to justify having us take him in the 1st round.
