#9...Cowboys are on the clock. It's starting to look more and more like Nick Fairley has a real shot of being there at #9, especially if Gabbert and Newton go in top 8.

Do the Cowboys pull the trigger on Fairley and hope he'll be a disruptive force at DE and bring a little penetration and pass rush to the position? Or do they trade down to secure a RT with first selection.

Personally, I don't see the Cowboys drafting a LT. Free is now a proven commodity who will have to be paid decent LT money or he'll opt for free agency in the near future. We don't need to draft the first OT off the board, pay him LT signing money, and then move him to RT opposite Free...that's not good business. Taking an OT that high means one thing...no matter who ends up on the left side, we're in a predicament of having to pay for both LT's, even though one moves over to the right side.

I'm still high on JJ Watt at DE or Prince Amukamara at CB; however, drafting a true NT with our second selection, allows us to move Ratliff to DE and solidify two positions with one new player.

If Fairley is on the board at #9, I think there will be a number of 4-3 teams interested in a trade. I could see us moving down once or even twice for extra picks, selecting a guy we plan to play at RT. Then using our 2nd pick on a NT like Paeia from Oregon or even moving back up a bit for the kid from Iowa. This allows us to add quality to both lines and work on depth at CB, ILB, and RB in rounds 3-4 or with extra picks.

If the team has any confidence at all that Young can be developed the way Free was at RT, or if they see a guy in other rounds who would be a good fit at RT, I could even see us trading further down in round 1 to the early 20's and selecting an OG who could possibly start right away.

I see no reason for the Cowboys to make a pick at #9 unless Amukamara is a CB they really believe in. Marcell Darius, Patrick Pederson, Von Miller, and AJ Green are the only "sure things" in the top 10, imo.

I just hope someone like Fairley is on the board to make a move down pay off while still getting us the help we need on both lines. To me, that's the way to go, followed closely by taking the CB, Prince A.

What do you think?

IMO either play it straight and take Tyron Smith at #9 or accept a trade down for a few spots and take either Smith if he's still there (I doubt) or Carimi. No need to get cute or fancy. Solidify the line with young bookend tackles and then options are wide open to add interior line depth, NT depth, or ILB and DB depth later. Don't know the exact details but Free's contract will not be a problem. Someone explained it here on the board in the past few days. Bottom line we will not be stuck paying two LTs.

Amukamara highly overrated IMO. I think with him it's more a case of lack of standouts in the class overall. For a #9 pick, he's just not that kind of game changer as a DB.

I don't want to see us try a do a whole lot of wheeling and dealing. I think Vela said it best -- this should be a "meat and potatoes" draft.

Everyone seems to have a differed opinion of Fairley's fit in a 30 front..I happen to be against it..I don't see the fit..I'm praying he goes before 9

For the record, I'm with you, I don't want Fairley. I didn't address that in my original post. I don't trust him. I don't think he has the motor, esp that high. And I don't think there is any DL in this draft that would warrant us selecting that high for the defense we play.

I think #9 is a player that's a difference maker, all the time.

If he's not a great fit for us, then I want him there at #9...I see him as extremely attractive to a 4-3 team. I want as many of the so-called top guys there as possible...either we take one or use him as trade bait.

Hoping Farley is gone before 9. Pass on Prince and either take Tyron Smith at #9 or trade down and still take Tyron if hes gone take Carimi than come back in Round 2 with another OL like Weisnewski.

Yet hardly any of the experts think any of the OT's are difference makers...some are guessing we might pick at OT at #9, but no one is ranking any of the OT's in the top 10 players.

If we didn't already have Free at LT, I'd be gnashing my teeth over taking the top OT or the 2nd or 3rd, but for RT, we can get good quality with any of 4-5 OT's in round 1...that's why I move down.

I still fear that OG may be a bigger problem than RT.

Take Tyron Smith, fix the OL

Can we afford to pay two guys LT money when only one of them plays LT?

I want to fix the OL and DL, but I'd like to trade down and get a RT plus an OG.

If Free had been left on the right side and was only going to get RT starter's money, I'd be all over Tyron Smith, but Free is the LT and will be paid that way even if a more talented player comes along...moving Free to RT wouldn't keep us from having to pay him big time LT money.

It's a different day and age in pro football, and I'm tired of nickel and diming the offensive line. Smith is being compared to Brick Ferguson. He's my pick at #9.

y.

You can get a tackle (@9) and a guard (@40) without trading down. You also get better talent by staying at 9

Smith's deal is going to be under a rookie cap, so he's going to be relatively cheap compared to Free.

This money thing people keep mentioning is a non issue. Its not like both of them will be taking up 25% of the cap or something each.

If you draft Smith though are you sure you can sign Free?

Detroit will be calling if Prince is on the board. If they offer a second, I take it in a heartbeat.

12 - Gabe Camari

Use 40 and our 3rd to trade back into the 1st - take Aaron Williams

Detroit's 2nd round - Danny Watkins

starting RT, starting LG in 2012, nickel CB in 2011 - starting in 2012 - 3 solid players who will all be starting by their 2nd year

I'd be willing to trade for a great deal but have no problem drafting the BLA (best lineman available either OL or DL) at 9 and that would not be Fairley

Why not? I don't really see how one has to do with the other.

If your Free, you know you can play LT in this league. Alot of other teams know that he can too. If we take Smith we are all but saying your days at LT are #'d. Why would he resign with us?

Take Tyron Smith

Fairley is more a of 4-3 guy.

If you can trade down one or 2 spots, and still get Smith do it.. But dont lose out on Smith.
