How about this pick from the first round Mock Draft at WalterFootball:

"Dallas Cowboys: Terrence Cody, NT, Alabama"

"Jay Ratliff is a terrific player, but he's not a true nose tackle. Dallas' defense could improve immensely if Jerry Jones drafts Terrence Cody and moves Ratliff out to a 3-4 end position. Jerry loves flashy things, so he'll undoubtedly be enamored with a big name like Cody

Thoughts?

ratliff gets more flack for someone who's proven time and time again he's a damn good NT.

I read that mock draft as well. Whoever wrote it is completey uninformed about Dallas.

He has us selecting Cody and Jordan Shipley.

We dont need a NT. We have a Pro Bowler.

If Ratliff wasn't a player I would say yes.

But since he's an All-Pro though doesn't fit the definition of a nose tackle, I would say no thank you. Don't mess with success.

Ware on 1 side and Rat and Spencer on the other would be nice.

Who's going to collapse the pocket then?

We need Rat's push from the interior far more than we do off the edge.

sign Casey Hampton.

Yeah, because we have so much cap space.

I'm not one for opening the pocketbook for a player in free agency, when you already have a pro-bowler at that same position.

No one is going to single team Cody.

How do you block Ware, Spencer and Ratilff outside?

Personally im all for cody, but not in the 1st
If for some reason he fell and we traded out of the 1st i say take him and a safety but i dont think that happens. Id much rather have Mike Iupati in the first.

We shouldn't spend a 1st or 2nd on a nose tackle but we DO need some quality depth behind Ratliff and to even rotate with him on some plays. Torrell Troupe, Cam Weston, etc. someone 315+ pounds.

Yeah, Walter's an idiot... Jay Ratliff is at the moment the best NT in the game, and moving him would be monumentally stupid...

I wonder if Ratliff would be as good at DE as he is at NT.

I wish just one game I could see

DL: Suh, Ratliff, Ohlshansky
LB: Ware, McClain, Brooking, Spencer

Now, while I would love to see this, I guarantee that the opposing QB would have nightmares and probably pee himself over this lineup.

we can draft Cody and not move Ratliff

Cody would be a situational player anyways

Close..

He gets more flack for someone who's proven time and time again he's THE BEST NT in the league. Why people keep wanting to change him ( for years ) is beyond me.

It's the classical perception issue. Alot of folks think a NT should look a certain way, be a certain height, weight this much.. horsecrap.. We have THE best NT in the league in a defense that's perfectly suited for him. Don't mess with it.

The grass ain't always greener on the other side.
