Mock Draft

I tried to keep this as realistic as possible in terms of what will be available at these picks. Basically if I've seen the player near the spot elsewhere, he's available to me. Trades are not an option because I'm not going to negotiate with myself. I'm not on speaking terms.

1(28) Reuben Foster ILB Alabama
Had to edit this mock late with the rumblings that Foster is sliding out of the 1st round. Not with me selecting he's not. Simply the best overall player in this draft. Would bring leadership and nasty to the defense. Budda Baker was the original selection. Too much value at 28 to pass up.

2(60) Taylor Moton T Western Michigan
I don't know how realistic it is that he's still on the board but several have him here and that's fits my criteria for making the pick. Not the popular choice. Slides in at RT for 2018. Very underrated player.

3(92) Jourdan Lewis CB Michigan
The best pure cover corner in the draft. Will take over Scandrick's role. Don't want to talk anymore about this.

4(133) Shelton Gibson WR West Virginia
Gives the team the speed dynamic they've lacked on offense for quite some time and could help in the return game. Home run hitter with a ridiculous 22.6 yards per catch average with the Mountaineers.

6(211) Ifeadi Odenigbo DE Northwestern
Athletic pass rush specialist with the tools to develop. Can give Tapper a blow when he gets tired of sacking everybody all the time.

7(228) DeAngelo Brown DT Louisville
Has a shot as a block eating 1 tech keeping the linebackers clean to make plays.

7(246) David Jones S Richmond
Super sleeper has slid through the cracks based off an injury riddled 2016. 9 INTs in 2015. Special teams gunner buys him time to develop.

Draft Grade: A+ Nailed it.

No impact pass rusher in the early rounds. Oxygen masks will now be deployed.

----

- I didn't plan to go heavy on defense. I'd have liked to have addressed TE and maybe with that 4th round pick but Gibson's speed is too enticing there.

- Mock drafts are meaningless. The truth is you, I and everyone else. including the teams. don't know how these players are going to come off the board. Yet we conduct mocks thinking we do. Your true mock draft will be when we go on the clock with those selections. I expect to pick a better player than the Cowboys every time when that happens. Just like last year.

- If the rumors are BS and Philadelphia lands Reuben Foster put me on suicide watch.

- I really hope I'm wrong but I think we're setting up for a real stinker draft class. All signs point to the team being fixated on a couple of positions. That's bad news, man. Fans are for it of course. They want instant impact. Draftniks aren't. Team building is the way to go in the draft and you don't do that force feeding picks at current needs. So if you want to break all ties with a defensive player I can live with it but you've lost me if you're playing the "we can go DE in round 1, CB in round 2, S in round 3" game. It's a terrible failure of a philosophy.

Best. Sports. Event. Of. The. Year. I can't wait to buckle down on Thursday with all the answers and a Do Not Disturb sign on the basement door.

Go Cowboys.

Coming away with Foster and Lewis would go a long way to making this defense formidable.

I agree with the way things are setting up--heavy on two positions and that's it. I really hope that they don't approach this draft like that.

I really like your draft. I think you managed to grab one of the premier players in the draft at 28, resolved any o-line issues at 60, nailed the most underrated cb in the 3rd, and grabbed the type of weapon we need in the 4th. I also absolutely love David Jones in the 7th. The only thing that would have made it better is grabbing one of the RB's with one of the other picks. The one thing you questioned TE is the one position I think we should wait another year to address.

I get the Foster logic, but Im not taking a player who failed a combine drug test at any point in any draft no matter how talented they are. If the Eagles draft him, you will be on suicide watch. Of the Cowboys draft him, I will be on suspension watch. Im not putting any trust in any player who couldnt pass the one drug test they HAD to pass

Great stuff.

Though you say you may not take a pass rusher or corner at 28, your board actually lines up pretty well for it...assuming Foster is gone already.

One or more of Barnett (doubtful), McKinley, Tre White, Charlton, Conley, Humphrey, Watt, or Harris could be there at 28...and you would have them at very good to fair value.

Never say never, RS.
Theres a very real chance that the top remaining player on your board when we pick ends up being a "need" player as well...even if it shouldnt have to be.

In the 2nd round, theres a real chamce that the top player remaining on your board at 60 will be Alvin Kamara. I'd be a bit bummed if we took him that early.
Moton or Jordan Willis could be there though...which would be great

Good read. Puzzled why more members aren't looking at ILB and OT where the team could get good value. Love the objective, unbiased draft grade and concur wholeheartedly.
Part of this is that some are so focused on need, but the other side is that usually at 28, neither ILB nor OT are the BPA anyway in this year's class.

I agree, if it falls that way,go for it.
As for Foster, unless Dallas removed him from their board (which there is a strong case they did) then theyd take him if there at 28. He'd be the best player left on their board.

Would love to get Foster but I am concern that he failed drug test or the the results were inconclusive at the combine where everyone in the world know when it is and you will be tested. Still, I would not mind the pick. I would love to get Barnett but I just don't see him or Foster falling to us. I can't see the Giants passing on him if the Eagles do. I love the Brown pick. Anyway good job.

Good job, Risen! I'd take this draft as it fixes most problems and even a problem that could possibly arise.

Go Cowboys.

Decent draft but no way do they take an OT in round 2. We let basically our entire secondary leave with an eye towards a very deep CB/S draft. Would be all over Foster as well if he's there.

I didn't say I wouldn't take a DE or CB at 28. Just not with Foster or Baker on the board. Unless Barnett drops for whatever reason.

Diluted sample. I wouldn't take a guy who tests positive but a diluted sample isn't definitive of anything.
