Cowboys are currently roughly $7 million over projected cap for 2023. Question is who they cut/extend/resign before free agency and the draft. Here are my projections are that matter.
1. Will extend Dak something similar to the Stafford contract last year. Extension will be 4 years at x dollars but will same Boys around $39 million on cap for 2023.
2. Tyron Smith gets a 2 year extension due to Steele unknown timeline to return. Cap saving of $9 million.
3. Believe they cut Zeke after June 1st although we could see a situation where he takes a pay cut to stay, doubt it though.
4. Michael Gallup and Zach Martin and Demarcus Lawrence are likely to be candidates for restructures.
5. We resign LVE, Fowler, Barr, Rush, and franchise Pollard and offer D. Wilson a contract but he waits to see other offers.
In free agency this year, I believe that with Quinn coming back that we make a little splash in free agency especially if Washington does not resign Da'Ron Payne. Believe he is the guy that puts the defense over the top due to his run stopping ability and now pass rushing. OBJ could be the guy at WR to complement Lamb and Gallup but money will be the issue. Could see Boys sign Will Hernandez OG as insurance at LG also.
The draft:
1st Joey Porter CB Penn State - brings the size, length and speed that Quinn absolutely loves, instant starter across from Diggs
2nd O'Cyrus Torrence OG Georgia - could go anywhere from late 1st to top of 3rd but if we get a chance in 2nd to get him, he would solve LG for a decade or more. Could really solidify the interior OLine with Martin and Biadasz who has quietly become a very good center.
3rd Devon Achane RB Texas A&M - great vision, great speed, will outrun LB to the corner and a lot of CB/S also, only 185 but able to run inside also, with Zeke probably gone, he would be a nice complement with Pollard and when both in backfield makes it easier on Dak for outlet passes
4th Andrei Iosivas WR Princeton - great hands, great speed, this is a player the Boys really need to complement Lamb and Gallup, no defense will able to cover with a safety due to his speed. He runs almost the entire route tree, sending him deep will really open up the underneath routes.
5th Owen Pappoe LB Auburn - has been good not great, has all the tools just needs a coach to break him out, rated late 2nd/3rd guy but really a tweener size and not a safety prospect so he him falling a couple of rounds at least, should be great on ST and could become a great LB
5th Jaxson Kirkland OT/OG Washington - has the ability to be elite at RG/LG/RT, he needs work and weight training, great size and hands, should be Martin's backup and ability to be elite like Martin in 3 years
6th Noah Gindorff TE North Dakota St - big kid, good routes, good blocking, has played some FB, big hands and good catch radius, speed is average. Probably keep 4 TE with Schultz but Ferguson, Hendershot, McKeon and Gindorff would be a nice combo anytime on the field.
6th Joe Tippmann OC Wisconsin - should be the backup with a chance to be an excellent starter down the road
7th Riley Moss CB/S Iowa - great instincts and great vision, good speed, can also play the slot or down in the box safety, should initially be great on ST taking Goodwin's spot.
7th Kendre Miller RB TCU - underrated RB, plays faster than timed speed, able to run over people, good vision, hits the hole quickly, great feet, decent pass catching ability, not known for blocking but when called upon did a very good job, always read to help the QB
UDFA:
Quindell Johnson CB Memphis - has the skills and speed with a good chance to be on 53 or taxi squad
Titus Leo CB/ED Wagner - could see Dallas developing him as a LB, Can cover like a CB and rush like an EDGE
D'Anthony Jones DL Houston - see him as a 3 tech guy, very quick
Rashad Colson DT Alabama A&M - could be one of those special finds, great size, great quickness, could become a very good one
Julius Weischof DE Michigan - another guy with the measurements but needs time, could see PS initially but could blow past of few if he learns
Jadakis Bonds WR Hampton - has size and speed but very unrefined
Duece Watts WR Tulane - huge hands and catch radius, needs to put it all together
Max Duggan QB TCU - believe he goes undrafted, he needs good QB coach and some time to develop, perfect red head for Jerry
Deuce Vaughn RB Kansas State - to small to play? maybe or maybe just the guy we need shake up with Turpin
