Correction: Ed Eagen initially told our reporter that he had signed with Buffalo. In a subsequent call, he acknowledged that he had instead signed with Dallas.

Northwestern State wide receiver and return specialist Ed Eagan went undrafted in the 2016 NFL Draft but soon after its conclusion, he signed as an undrafted free agent with the Dallas Cowboys.

Eagan finished his career as the school's all-time record leader in receptions (177) and receiving yards (2,228).

The 5-foot-11, 192-pound Eagan, who prepped at Holy Cross, finished his Northwestern State career with 10 school records as well as two Southland Conference records.

Aside from the receptions records, Eagan is also the school's career leader in all-purpose yardage (5,651), kickoff return yardage (2,922), kickoff returns (125), single-season receptions (73), single-season kickoff return yards (1,045) and single-season kickoff attempts (45), single-game receiving yardage (238) and is tied for the lead for most receptions in a game (13). He is also the Southland Conference record holder for kickoff returns and kickoff return yardage.

Eagan's ability to play in the return game helped him land with Dallas.

"They all say that special teams is going to help me stick to a team and not just get picked up or drafted but actually stick to a team," Eagan said. "It's going to be special teams. The difference between me and a lot of other people is that I can use do special teams but I can contribute in the slot too."

Slot receiver is where Eagan is pegged at the next level. He played on the outside at Northwestern State but has embraced the idea since playing the position at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala.

"Senior Bowl was really the first time I was in the slot," Eagan said. "In college, I was outside. I can play outside. I was doing good out there so they kept me there. Being in the middle of the field and going against linebackers and safeties, I could use the speed and quickness."

CHRIS BROWN

11276827.jpeg

Class: Senior
Hometown: Hanahan, SC
High School: Hanahan
Height / Weight: 6-1½ / 195
Position: Wide Receiver

Notre Dame receiver Chris Brown (6-1, 195) caught 48 passes for 597 yards and four touchdowns last year, but was overshadowed by fellow WR Will Fuller.

Center Jack Brendel out of UCLA got a glowing review from NFL.com: "Brendel brings everything you'd want in a center: leadership (three-time co-captain), intelligence (first-team Academic All-Conference pick), reliability (four-year starter), and production (second-team All-Pac-12 pick in 2014 and 2015). Brendel isn’t as strong or athletic as some NFL teams prefer in the pivot, but others will value his other traits and willingness to get after his man in the run game enough to consider him a potential starter."

Norfolk State linebacker Deon King and led all NCAA football teams last year with 163 tackles.

Michigan State CB Arjen Colquhoun started 11 games for the Spartans last year, recording a career-high 45 tackles, 12 passes defended, 10 pass break-ups, two interceptions and two forced fumbles. The Canadian native was ranked No. 5 overall on the Canadian Football League's December Scouting list and was expected to be picked high in the 2016 CFL Draft.

Northwestern State receiver Ed Eagan (5-11, 192) is a premier kick returner. He finished as the school's all-time leader in career receptions (177), receiving yards (2,228), all-purpose yards (5,651). He was also the school's leader leader in kickoff returns (125), single-season kickoff return yards (1,045), single-season kickoff attempts (45), and kickoff returner yards (2,922). Eagan had initially committed to the Bills, but Jason Garrett, his coach at the Senior Bowl, convinced him to come to Dallas.

Vanderbilt DE Caleb Azubike didn't put up great numbers in Vanderbilt's 3-4 defense, but should look much better in a 4-3 scheme.

Toledo's Rolan Milligan played some JUCO ball in California before having the second-most tackles on the UAB roster in 2014 (54) with six pass breakups. OWhen that program shut down, he moved to Toledo, where the 5-foot-11 safety had 48 tackles as a senior, four for loss. He also had two interceptions, five passes defended, and forced three fumbles.

Wisconsin TE Austin Traylor will likely look to make his living as a blocking tight end and fullback. In Bob McGinn's annual scouts notes series, when talking about Traylor, one scout said: "best blocking tight end I saw all year." Traylor was essentially a sixth offensive lineman for the Badgers, who during his senior year became a viable receiving option, totaling 14 catches for 210 yards and four touchdowns in his lone year under Paul Chryst's pro-style offense, as he missed five games due to an arm injury.

Jacksonville State receiver Andy Jones recorded a 41.5-inch vertical jump, which would have tied him with Jalen Ramsey and Daniel Lasco for the best performance at the Combine.

Boston Stiverson, who played left guard at Kansas State, twice earned honorable mention All-Big 12 honors, lining up at guard next to LT Cody Whitehair, who was picked in the second round by the Bears.

Akron DT Rodney Coe was one of the players brought to Dallas for an official visit. Like Henry Melton, Coe is a former running back who's transitioned to DT.

David Hedelin is from Sweden, and took a circuitous route to the NFL. As a JuCo transfer, he was in Purdue for only two years, but he was a 4-star recruit. He had to sit the first few games of his junior season due to an NCAA suspension for playing for a club team in his native Sweden. Then he missed the final two games of 2015 due to a concussion, so he played in less than 20 games for Purdue.

Thanks for the UDFA list.
Will the rookie camp invitees be added to this list also, for the upcoming rookie camp this weekend?

Yes but I could use the help of the members to add them if there are additional attendees. I'll edit the OP.

I will definitely be watching this thread. I always like watching those who weren't drafted to see how they compare with those who were. Those who have it vs those who want it.

I can see all 9 draft picks sticking on the roster and hopeful for WR's - Brown, Jones, Eagan. Jake Brendel, King, Colquhoun, Coe amd Traylor as FB.

CHRIS BROWN
WR NOTRE DAME
2555392.jpg

  • 6'2"HEIGHT
  • 32 1/4"ARM LENGTH
  • 194LBS.WEIGHT
  • 9"HANDS

OVERVIEW
Productive wide receiver prospects with track experience are intriguing to college recruiters and NFL scouts alike. Brown hits both categories, as he put up great high school numbers (33-532, 12 scores in just four games as a senior, losing time to a broken collarbone) and also starred on the track as a sprinter and jumper. In fact, he ran with the United States Junior track team. Brown started at least four games each year of his Notre Dame, improving his numbers each season. He caught 39 passes for 548 yards and a score as a junior before setting career highs with 48 receptions, 597 yards, and four touchdowns in 2015.

ANALYSIS

STRENGTHS
Steady and consistent over last three seasons. Has the ability to go up and get the ball and can make the occasional circus catch over smaller corners. Decent quickness off the snap and into his routes. Has buildup speed to sneak down the field against Cover-2 looks. Runs crisp, quality routes and would benefit even more with better initial push to create panic in cornerbacks. Not overly physical as blocker, but does his job.
WEAKNESSES
Thin frame. Will struggle against strong pressman corners. Hands are a little inconsistent. Has ability to make tough catches, but focus drops are a concern. Hand strength may be a culprit. Tends to get open due to design over separation quickness. Lacks fluidity in his adjustment to the downfield throw. Despite track in his background, didn't post explosive play count expected.
BOTTOM LINE
Lanky second option at Notre Dame has a few traits that will keep him in draft discussions late on Day 3, but he doesn't have any standout qualities that he can hang his hat on.

The WR race should be fun.
If Dallas doesn't get any surprise upgrades to the position, you have to think it's one of the top targets in 2017 FA/draft.
