We hope. Not only is he still unproven over a long haul, there are injuries and free agency that could interupt those 3-4 year plans.
They are giving him an extension. They would be stupid not to now...his price will continue to go up even if he has just an average year.

I have no problem with a late round QB, much like the Packers used to do with guys like Brooks, Hasselback, and Brunell, but I just don't see why it has to be in the 3rd or 4th.

Trent Edwards sounds intriguing ..... if we finally fixed the line.
Trent Edwards will most likely be the 3rd QB taken. Early second round I imagine. We don't have a shot at him, and that's not really the kind of pick I'd want to spend on a QB given our situation. Stanton would be a steal in the 3rd. Being a MSU fan, I've seen a ton of his games. He's got a lot of heart and the ability to make big plays. His coaching, particularly the play calling, didn't do him any favors. He's one of the best scrambling QBs I've watched. Not fast but knows how to find the hole and turn negative plays into a positive.

As with any other position, the Cowboys have the luxury of drafting the best player available rather than reaching for any certain position.

The team has needs, but none which must be filled in any round.

If a quality quarterback were to be there for them, they'd be foolish not to take him.

If I had to take a QB it would be Zabransky.

I'm just don't want to have to spend a 1st day pick on a QB. As a matter of fact if we select a QB with any of our first 3 picks I'm signing up Hos for a subscription of "Teen Life" as a blatant act of terrorism-- I may even call him once in a while and hang-up. :)
Yeah, well I have an air horn so hang up fast.

Obviously is someone of great value drops then go for it, but OT, OG, OLB, DT, OLB, CB, WR are all greater needs...address those first.

Beck and Stanton are the only guys I would spend a 3rd or 4th on but I would do it because I think the quality is there. The 49ers had 2 Hall of Fame QBs yet still used 6th and 7th round picks on Steve Bono and Elvis Grbac. You simply can't ignore that position. You can't predict injuries. We have been extremely blessed in that department. We haven't made a QB switch due to injury since 2001. I'd love to believe that happens forever from here on out, but I just can't. In days past when we had a Steve Beuerlein, Bernie Kosar, or Randall Cunningham and our QB was hurt it helped this team to not have no one to go to. We even turned to 3rd string Kevin Sweeney to win a game.

3 deep. We have to have it.

That's based on opinion - yours.

Romo has played in a handful of games. He still has questions surrounding him, despite what all of us would hope.

There is no reason not to draft a quality quarterback if the opportunity presents itself.

I am good with the 6-7 round pick on a QB...I just think there would be far better value at higher need positions in the 3rd-4th.

Didn't I say this?

I guess in a roundabout way you did.

And I'm not screaming for the team to draft a QB, I would be OK if they didn't.

But I'd be upset if they had the chance to get a good one and they passed.

It seems that this team has consistantly ignored the QB position in the draft far too often for my tastes.

If Brady Quinn is on the board at 22 then by all means...

My requirements aren't quite that high.

4. Jeff Rowe, Nevada. Physically larger than your these other "Romo-similar" QB but still has the ability to move in the pocket and is better suited to short/medium throws. Should be available in the 6th round.

Rowe makes the most sense any way you slice it

if we want to develop a backup, late, 2nd day is where to do it, and where Rowe will be available, has good size, above-average arm strength, is mobile, has good footwork, excels in the short-medium passing game, he's very similar to Romo except taller

Did Kolb enter the draft? I caught 2 Houston games last year, and was pretty impressed with his command of the offense.

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, and no

Not if we don't draft him I don't. Every player we draft or acquire through other means, I hope they contribute.

Why is that so hard for you to understand? This is like the 3rd or 4th time you questioned me like this on something fairly inane.

I just don't get why Beck is one of only 2 QBs who have a chance to contribute for us

we also have to have another pass-rusher, a future LT, a future #1 WR, a future #3 CB, a future NT
No kidding? Maybe that's why in the mocks I have done I have spread it around. For example...

My post in this thread quoted below sort of makes this BS doesn't it?

There are no sacred cows. I will be more than happy with Zabransky, Kolb, Edwards, Stanton, Palmer, and a couple of others. I just happen to like Beck the best because of his accuracy and smarts.

Oh and I saw the Philo Beddoe crack before you deleted it. He was riding my coat tails, not the other way around. Do a search on John Beck if you doubt this. I mentioned him along with several other QBs during the season.

I touted Laron Landry harder than any other player and am on Meachem's bandwagon right now. Is it going to get your panties in a wad for any player I like, or just a QB I like? Tell me now so I can ignore the drama.
