I see many are enamored with Barkley and advocating drafting him #1 overall. I am surprised by that.

If he's unprecedented he produces at a level of someone like Leveon Bell, yet I don't think many of those same people would advocate paying Bell the 14+ m/year he's asking for. So you'd use your #1 on a 5 year player. Just doesn't add up to me.

Assuming other viable players are available say at least one of o tackle, QB, D-line, CB would you be for drafting a RB #1 overall?

only if i also had the number 4 pick and there were 4 qbs worth picking, and more than 4 blue chip non qb's
What makes you so sure Cleveland feels their are 4 QBs worth picking?

the fact that they're looking at barkley number 1, and the general consensus. but really you can whittle it down to 3 since their are only 2 picks between theirs. or just go with the other positions and nelson, chubb, minkah etc are very nice 'consolation prizes'

Rosen will be a Giant. Gettleman has no history of taking RB's high.

I think their are 4 QBs at this time worth being taken top 10 but all 4 are not going to be for every team. Also one already said he wont sign the contract if the Browns draft him. If their is a QB they want they better take him 1st overall then take whichever Blue chipper is still on the board at 4. For all we know Giants and Colts trade back with the Broncos and the Jets and the Browns get Barkley anyways. Its better to lose out on a player at a position that usually doesnt get a 2nd contract then lose out on a potential Franchise QB.

Seeing the type of moves the Browns are making this offseason has me starting to think they are serious about not wanting to still be the joke of the league and might actually have a sting of winning season. If they take the RB #1 overall and we find out that the QB they wanted went to the Jets who moved up to 3rd overall then that team is just cursed with stupidity no matter who is running the team.

Rosen has already walked that back and said that he never said he wouldn't play for the Browns. I'd expect that change of heart will hold consistent as they continue to improve the team and looking at the receiving options they have.
I also think it's fairly clear that they don't have a qb they want more than any other, and if they do and reports are correct, it's likely Josh Allen who should be there, or they will be ok missing on. Barkley will make whoever they ultimately start's job that much easier anyway.

I"m just not a big fan of taking a RB early. 10 of the top 15 rushing leaders last year were draft outside of the top 20.

If you're going to do it, you've got to feel like that one individual will help you team and QB so much that it will help get you over the hump.

Zeke and Fournette were good examples, but I'm not sure the Browns are in a position to do so.

Draft the QB you love at 1, then a guy like Fitz or Chubb at 4 at a more premium position.

Then they'll still be in position to take a great RB at 33 - Guice, Chubb, Johnson or Jones. I'd guarantee one of those dudes is there at 33, and in such a strong class for RBs I think they'll all be quality players in the NFL.

Aside from maybe kicker, there's not a position that's not worth the #1 pick.

I wouldn't be shocked if nyg picked Quenton Nelson,OG-Notre Dame.
which is another reason if DaRon Payne,DT-Alabama is there,Id take him.
Draft to improve your team.
Draft to compete in the east.
If NY doesn't want a QB at 2, I see a trade down coming.
Maybe with Buffalo

I think sometime people dont realize the value of the 1st overall pick...especially in a good QB year.

Add togeteher the 7th and 8th overall pick and you get the value of 1st overall.

Taking RB there seems very extreme.

It'd be like giving up the 4th overall (like we did for Zeke...which was a lot) AND your high 2nd round pick AND a future 1st rounder.
Its really expensive

Unless the player you want is a franchise QB, pass rusher, or all world LT, you have to trade down if the offer is good..

You have to have a QB.

If I'm CLEV I take Darnold #1, as he's most likely the best prospect.

I assume Carlos Hyde means they agree with us that thinking a RB that high is not wise.

If drafting Barkley gets them to the playoffs and can win games then take him number 1.
