Draftwire 7 Round Mock

1. WR D.J. Moore - Woo hoo!
2. DT Harrison Phillips - Always great to add a day one starter in the 2nd round.
3. TE Hayden Hurst - Ehhh. I guess.
4. CB Holton Hill - Great size and potential. Probably worth the risk here.
4. LB Josey Jewell - Booooo. The LB version of Kellen Moore.
5. RB John Kelly - Mehhh.
6. OT Will Richardson - Decent size, wonder about his motor
6. DE Peter Kalambayi - Won't make the team.
6. FS Jamar Summers - Makes me covet Kevon Frazier. Will not make the team.
7. WR Tre'Quan Smith - SPARQ guy who won't make roster (crowded WR room) and will be claimed before we can stash him on Practice Squad.

How is Harrison Phillips rated that highly? Tape i have seen was so bad I just moved on.
Yeah I have only watched like 10 DTs so far but he looks like a third round guy to me and less talented than Collins.

Last two seasons...

Harrison Phillips
144 tackles 27 tackles for loss 14.5 sacks 3 forced fumbles.

Maurice Hurst

92 Tackles 24.5 tackles for loss 10.5 sacks 2 forced fumbles.

Taven Bryan

53 tackles 9 tackles for loss 5 sacks 1 Forced Fumble

Vita Vea

82 tackles 12 tackles for loss 8.5 sacks 1 forced fumbles

Tim Settle

53 tackles 19.5 tackles for loss 4 sacks 0 forced fumbles

Da.Ron Payne

89 tackles 4.5 tackles for loss 2.5 sacks 0 forced fumbles

Just me, but no way I'm passing on Hurst. Nothing suggesting Irving is long-term.......

Not sure how realistic it is with the Hurst and Smith projections, but I would absolutely endorse this draft, even if I don't like some of the choices all that much. The Moore, Phillips, Hurst, Jewell and Kelly picks would be great at the spots they got them.
Absolutely horrible mock draft.

Why? The dude is a tackling machine, he wouldn't be counted on in coverage as that would go to Smith and Lee
I do not see a tackling machine in the NFL, I see a target, his coverage would make me cringe similar to Roy Williams safety during his decline. I think with the teams we play in our division coverage is a trait that cannot be ignored. Now that argument is as a starter, if we are just drafting place holders than I see your point. That sounds harsh but I think there are better choices in the draft that include coverage as a useful talent. My opinion, always enjoy seeing your take on things.

Was watching NFLN and their path to the draft show last week.

One or two guys said that some NFL GMs actually are ranking DJ Moore as the the first WR taken over Ridley.
There are the 5-10% out there that see that happening.
I know most of thos CBS guys are mocking him in the 1st
You never know

I'll say this about Jewell. I am not high on the guy but in the 4th with our comp pick?

Yeah, I can't see how anyone would have a problem with that.

I respect that. He isn't known for coverage but you have to remember that rookies need developing. With Lee I think he could learn coverages well. Get him some game action on run downs. Not many rookies are going to come in and take over coverages when we go 2 LBers as Lee and Smith have that locked up. Plus Thomas and Wilson can play in coverage.

Personally I would draft 2 line backers anyways

I hope you are right about him if we get him. This year seems more difficult for straight end solutions. Positions have many more caveats than in the past or we have gotten more experienced at seeing these pitfalls.
