Not sure if there are any Dragonage fans out there, but I'm wondering how people feel about this latest Dragon Age game.

It's the "game of the year" and such I guess.

Dragon Age: Origins was one of my all times favorite RPG's. Some of the best character and storyline interactions I've come across.

Dragon Age 2, while a step down from the high Bar Origins set, was still, imo, a fantastic game with an amazing story and characters.

This Inquisition game though.. just absolute crap so far. I have about 20 hours put into this game. It essentially feels like a single player MMO. Just a huge huge time sink filler game, endless fetch and collection quests. The storyline and character aspects are still there, but there's so much time spent doing random crap in between any sort of story progression that it just makes it incredibly frustrating.

Everything has been dumbed down, from tactics and combat , to spells and abilities. It's a mishmash of things that were popular from other games. Huge elements from Skyrim added, large pieces of games like Diablo III (combat/potion system). I Just feel like this game took everything that made the DA series unique, and scrapped it to be more like other games.

I wont' get into the fact that this game is CLEARLY a console game, that got ported (and horribly so) to PC. The controls/camera views/menu's are just god awful on PC, but I'll let that be.

Part of me feels like this game is just absolute garbage, the other part of me feels like maybe games like these have just passed me by. I'm 30 now. Is this what people really want from their RPG games? Collecting 20 of x item, kill 20 of x enemy, repeatedly, for an entire game? 5-10 hours in between any type of cutscene or plot elements? Very very little character/companion interaction? Mindless grinding to unlock stuff?

I love all this stuff in an MMO.. but not an offline RPG. Is it just me or do other people feel this game is completely lack luster and an insult to the Dragon Age franchise?

DAO was/is a great game...
Ive never played DA2 and from what ive heard I am not missing much.

DA3 I am somewhat interested in buying as ive heard its pretty good. After reading your assessment I might wait for a sale.

Off topic here but the RPG I as well as millions are waiting on is the Witcher 3.....that is after I upgrade my GPU.

Witcher3 should be amazing, I assume you are getting a Maxwell GPU or an AMD. I looked at the GTX 960 but I think it needs more bus and memory.

DA:I is ... ok. The main story is way too short and can be completed in one day. Fortunately, the side quests are good. The problem for me is it never feels "epic". DA:O felt epic during the human origin story. DA:O felt epic during the battle at Ostagar. DA:O felt epic during the final battles.

DA:I never gave me a real "epic" feeling and the ending is very, very weak. I've decided not to play again until modders are able to come up with some good stuff. Mass Effect 3's ending made that game unplayable for me but modders fixed that. I hope they'll do the same for DA:I.

This is exactly how I felt about DA2. I hadn't played it, and had no intention to due to reviews. A friend talked me into playing it, as it sets up everything in Inquisition, so I played it.
I am massively confused at the amount of negative feedback that game got. I thought it was a really good game. The storyline is a lot more linear than Origins, the combat is a little bit more fast paced and streamlined, and I can see why that would annoy some, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. The only really negative I give the game is the fact that it has a problem with reusing the same zones/levels over and over again.

The storyline and characters were absolutely fantastic though, which is what the main Draw is for me in an RPG. Whole storyline with the Qunari, then the ending.. and even a quest involving the main characters mom that is just wow.
The transition from a voiceless character in Origins to a fully voiced in Dragonage 2 was a nice improvement. I really dislike voiceless main characters.

That's another big issue I have with this game, and Bioware in general right now. They have done NOTHING to work with the mod community this time around. Modders having a hard time doing anything atm. Will be a bit before good mods start coming out.

I will admit. Once the story gets moving in Inquisition, I am entertained. Haven't beaten it yet, but I am enjoying the story, companions, and dialogue. That's about it though. Will update this with final thoughts once I've completed the game.
