Drastic changes need to be made immediately

Dallas has a disturbing unwillingness to demote players during a season. Especially, if Jerry paid them good money and might look unfootballman-like in doing so.

To his rare credit, our genius GM made a surprising admission after the game when he said, "I'm hopeful, but I'm realisitic." Thank you for that, Jerry.

6-6 is such an ugly, non-descript, uninspiring record for team and fans alike, and it can't afford more than one more notch on the wrong side for this thing to have any shot at postseason. In fact, instead of rooting for the Giants tonight as we thought, it appears now we need the Commanders to win to reel New York back in.

Winning the NFC East is the only way in now. Tiebreakers don't favor Dallas with Seattle or Chicago.

So how? Drastic measures are the only way.

The Cowboys are going to have to forget feelings, pride, and salaries to have a shot. The eyesores are obvious - Free, Bernadeau, Cook, McCray, Ogletree, Connor, to name the most egrigious - and immediate changes must be made.

This is what I'd do:

1. Move Parnell to tackle asap, and move Free inside to guard. The right side of the line looks like the leavings of a large farm animal, but perhaps Free can be more effective if we get him out of space. He's more physical than Bernadeau and Dockery for sure, and Parnell handled himself well on the more difficult left tackle position. Get Costa back, and this could be a more physical line that will keep the run game going against better defenses than Philly.

2. After #1 is inputted, run the ball and wind the clock. Keep Romo throwing 27 passes a game like last night, not 57.

3. Play Jenkins at corner and drop Carr into McCray's spot in the standard defense. I like Danny McCray on the roster for his great special teams ability and as a backup, but lordy get him out of the regular safety spot. I know the absence of Scandrick makes it impossible to put Carr at safety all the time, but when they are in a two-receiver set (or less), get McCray off the field.

4. Get Poppinga ready asap. Connor and Sims were lost much of last night. This guy can't be any worse. I'd play Albright more, too.

5. Bench Ogletree. He's completely useless, particularly when you have a much better-handed receiver in Harris, and with Beasley getting a bit more comfortable.

That's where I'd start.

We know this, this thing has NO shot constructed as it is and playing like it is. You can't fall behind 14-3 against Pittsburgh, New Orleans, or Cincinnati and come storming back like that. The Eagles were missing seven offensive starters, and they marched through the Cowboys defense with ease. Philly had no pass rush all year, yet Romo was bullied early. Nice response, but the problems still scream loud and clear.

To be clear, I expect none of this to happen. As earlier stated, there's a long history, sans Parcells or Jimmy, to vastly exagerrate the skills of our players and make excuses for their mistakes. "Encouragement" won't fix "can't".

Changes must be made right now. Today. Or this this season's glimmer of hope will fade like a fart in a hurricane.

Look, all that rambling you did, will be for nothing. Because nothing will change.

Get use to it.

The only thing we can do, is continue to watch the Dez/Romo/Murray/Witten show...and hope they can carry the whole team. That is our only hope plain and simple

Garrett was asked about benching free and he said NO. It is what it is and its not gonna change. Jerry won't let it.

Exactly what I just said. Nothing will change....so no use in us hoping we just have to hope our superstars can shoulder the load for the team

Mainly Dez and Romo

As soon as I noticed your thread I was going to suggest you shut up without bothering to read your OP because your crying is getting a little tiresome.

But after reading your OP I have to say good job. I agree with all your suggested changes. The only thing I don't agree with is your belief none of them happen. I think you may be pleasently surprised.

My suggestion didn't involve benching Free. Just moving him over a spot.

I have some hope Ogletree will hit the bench once Armstrong is ready, but we seem content to sink on the doomed ship called Doug Free.

Excellent post with some realistic problem solving options. Now, if only the coaches /front office would read this...

Jerry is not to blame. Garrett can make ANY in game adjustments or changes. When all the aging veterans were cut, Garrett was the catalyst/Ring Leader so if Free will not be benched then Garrett is the catalyst or the Decision Maker.

Not only would Parnell be a possible upgrade now, but they need to determine if he is realistic option to start next year.

The other veterans signed contracts before Garrett was the Head Coach.

Free was signed after Garrett became the Head Coach. Could this be the reason for his dedication to Free?

Our fans are becoming more disturbing than Jerry Jones. You are three years too late complaining about the O-line. We all knew they would suck. Your solution is put worse players in their position. Brilliant! Have you been drinking?

You act surprised an offensive minded coach with the best record in history against the Cowboys was able to move the ball against a team missing the entire middle of the defense? Really? Missing our NT, both our inside LB's, all of our safeties and a corner and you expected what exactly?

So lets go with your plan and put worse possible players on the field. That should be fun! If we were going to play our worse players in a bid for the number one overall pick, they should have done it from the first game on.

I have read a lot of dumb theories lately but the folks that keep advocating for the worst player to start come of as a bit insane.

O-tree is the only guy you listed that needs to go back to fourth string.

Free is really not strong enough to play guard.
I wonder if he can play safety. McCray was like a poke in the eyes at times yesterday. Hard to see.

Yet McCray still led the team in tackles and tied for tackles for a loss. Not bad for a guy that was never supposed to see the field in any meaningful way.

THAT was a great post! I agree with everything and some I never thought of but hell, no sense in playing it safe.

We're at the two minute warning with no timeouts left, might as well go for it.

I dunno, IMHO I think maybe the OP's suggestions surrounding Free may be worth exploring. I mean I know Dockery is garbage and worse than Bern a doo9kie but can Parnell really be worse than the first half performance that Free turned in last night.
At times I thought it was last year's week 17 debacle against the "Giant jailbreak" in which Romo ran foir his life all game but then I realied it wasn't the Giant's vaunted pass rush but some no name Graham guy looking like the second coming of Reggie White. Seriously man, with all due respect, can Parnell really be worse than what your eyes saw last night from Free?

Screw Armstrong.. what is wrong with Dwyane Harris? That guy fights for every yard he can and he gives 110% out on the field every game.
