Dream Crushers: Most Destructive Owners/GMs in Sports

He (jerry) has as many super wins as head coach Bill Belichick. So there you go. Im sure you think you would have six or seven. :laugh2:

You mean Jimmy Johnson built him maybe the most talented top to bottom team in nfl history, then Jerry crossed jimmy so many times that jimmy left, and Jerry managed to squeeze one more ring out of that group before running the franchise into the ground? Jerry would have six or seven if he backed of jimmy and let him run the organization in the 90's...

The reality is that even back the , Jerry acted in the same idiotic way he does now and hired his college buddy to coach one of the most storied franchises in the NFL after firing a legendary coach (Landry)

This gets lost because, jerry lucked out and jimmy turned out to be a great coach but can you imagine what would have happened had jimmy failed ?

It would be tough to find a worse owner in the NFL
Even the bengals would have fired GM Jerry a decade ago

What would have happened had Jimmy failed?

Maybe what is needed is a thread that is pinned which outlines all the subjects that are forbidden to be talked about.

You would need a new one pinned every day then! :bang2:

Jerry is the best owner in sports bar none. I am so happy that we have him, not another owner out there that even comes close. Jerry will be in the HOF...BANK ON IT.

I would agree with you, however, you can't be the best owner in sports when you are failing in your responsibility to hire good professionals to run the organization. He has an amateur GM in place and the results over the past decade have been startling.

Have the Patriots been better over the past 10 years?

Although it makes me feel good to trash Jones, and so I'll continue to, it's just meaningless to tell a power junkie to quit. So in other words, most of us are wasting our breath. But I'll still keep wasting my breath because it just makes me feel good.

If Jerry - the best owner - hires an incompetent GM that mismanages the team into a middle of the road experience and not to the top, as good GMs have done about everywhere - how is Jerry still the best owner?

So T-shirts sold could more than hiring management that thrives and succeeds?

There isn't much to argue about with regard to the premise that Jerry is a "Dream Crusher" and incompetent GM. In my opinion.

In 2003-2012 (the past 10 season) the Patriots have had:

  • 10 winning season in the past 10 years
  • Have averaged 12.6 wins per season
  • 5 seasons with 13+ wins
  • 4 Superbowl appearances
  • 2 Superbowl victories

Cowboys.... 1 playoff victory.

Left out a key piece to my post, My question should have been Have the Patriots been better in the draft over the past 10 years. Not as a resounding YES to that question I dont believe.

Sensationalistic tripe...

I knew when I saw the thread title that it would be about Jerry, and I think it's fraudulent and ridiculous that his name is even remotely associated with this list. Jerry Jones is the best owner in sports, and has delivered fans 3 Superbowl wins, some if the best players in NFL history, the most recognizable brand in professional sports (ANY sport, and in the WORLD), and keeps our team as the most talked-about franchise in the league year in and year out since purchasing the team.

Have there been disappointments, missteps, and unfulfilled hopes? Show me a team that hasn't happened with. Jerry is the main reason Dallas' hopes always remain so high...

Jerry Jones is the opposite of a dream-killer.

He lets us dream bigger because he's here.

No doubt Jerry puts on an amazing spectacle. He is the quintessential showman....unfortunately I guess I am old school... I pretty much only care about the product on the field.... That stuff that happened nearly two decades ago when Jimmy handled personnel is but a distant memory.

He 'let's' us dream bigger cause that promotes profits. He wins even when the team is a complete disaster. Big splash here big splash there....ta-dah. Hides his COMPLETE incompetence as anything other than a businessman. And I use the term lightly.
