Exactly, and I really hope Parcells hasn't ruled that out from his mind. I am really skeptical about that, since we all saw he kept Vinny even when everything seemed lost and there was no point in having Vinny start. I just hope, this time around, if that happens, he will let who ever won the backup job to be the starter.

I think it's safe to say that Parcell's does not rule ANYTHING out completely.

The chance that Romo utterly out-shines Bledsoe is astronomically small, but if it happenned, Parcell's would go with the QB playing better. And would also mean that Bledsoe's game completely collapsed.

As Parcell's said, his insistence of keeping Vinny as starter to the bitter end was more about Parcell's belief that Romo & Henson were not ready and that going in would set their development back. It wasn't really about any overblown sense of loyalty.

Hope that eases your mind ;)

and that he tends to state the negative rather than the positive, saying there's no competition for the QB job is going right along w/ how he always does things

Maybe I am going to be in minority opinion, but it bothers me somewhat that BP said that there is not going to be any competition for No. 1 QB?

Now I am not saying that there was going to be any realistic chance of Romo or Henson unseating Bledsoe this season, but so far, this is the first time since BP has been here, he has no pretense of competition for the starter job whatsoever.

I guess, my problem here is, its Ok if it is just for this year, I am really concerned if BP decides to stay and Bledsoe decides to also stay for next year, and we haven't done much in Playoffs, if cowboys do indeed make playoffs that is, BP will stubbornly stick with Bledsoe, without giving the young guys a chance to compete for the spot. Now if Bledsoe still wins the competition fairly easily then I guess so be it.

Now if cowboys were to make some real noise in Playoffs and say manage to even a game on road in playoffs, then it will be obvious, that Bledsoe will be unquestioned starter, if he stays that is.

If not, I will start to worry about being stuck with an old qb, with no answer at future, especially if we pick real low in next draft.

Why?
Roy Williams, Jason Witten, Demarcus Ware, Flozell, Bledsoe, TO, Glenn and many others are guaranteed starters. I am sure BP would love battles at every position but the salary cap doesnt allow that kind of talent.

No they are not. Not guaranteed. Any of them could be replaced if their production or effort falls down, despite their better talent.

Romo outshining Bledsoe..:lmao2:

I think the "Boys would learn what became painfully evident in Buffalo. It wasn't Bledsoe's fault, the line really sucked. Ask Holcomb/Losman and their league leading sack totals :)

Hmm.. I am not so sure about that. He will probably be certainly ahead of Romo and Henson most likely this year. But not sure I agree with that Miles ahead part.

I guess the problem is, we have no way of knowing that from looking at pre-season games, since even last year, it sure felt Romo was better in last two games of pre-season than Bledsoe looked. Since real season is quite different, its hard to say if that would have been true in normal Sunday games.

Also, Jerry said couple of times, Henson graded out the best among the three in 7-7 drills, while last in 11-11 on drills in TC. Not sure I remember who graded out best in 11-11, but I am guessing or hoping it was Bledsoe and not Romo.

But if as BP thinks, Romo makes a another big jump this year, and grades out better than Bledsoe in TC? I guess this is all if and buts, and we do that till no end. Just was bothered by BP's statement, there would be no competition whatsoever for no. 1 Job.

As much as I dislike Bledsoe, there isn't a chance that Romo or Henson will ever unseat him, nor be starters anywhere in the league. They're just too far behind. Even Chris Simms or Joey Harrington would keep the two of them on the bench.

You want to pay Romo like a top 5 QB in the league?

Hehe no, I guess not :D Since he is UDFA, I guess Cowboys get nothing even if they offered nice contract unless they franchise him. Which is not going to happen.

why should Dallas release Henson just to comfort Romo? what happens then if Romo isn't what he thinks he is? keep both, neither are hurting the cap, and let the best man win

It is all hypothetical.

I did not say that the Cowboys should release Henson to satisfy Romo, I said that is the only other way he would stay with the Cowboys. I was in no way suggesting that they do it.

Hypothetical - if they want Romo and think he is the answer at QB and still want to go with Bledsoe for the next 2-3 years - which I am definately for at this point in time - then he will either leave next year or they will have to do something to keep him here. Releasing Henson, in my view would give him some assurance of the confidence they would have.

Otherwise he will be gone. Is that a problem? Only if he is the goods.

I am not saying he is.

This thread is not ridiculous, it is just pointing to the fact that at some point we need to know what we have with the backups because if we don't have anything with either of them, then we again are screwed after Bledsoe leaves just like after Aikman left.

I am not suggesting an open competition, but real game time would be nice, mop up or blowout.

I think its been pretty clear since Vinny was brought here. BP will name the starter and run with it. No mods.

BP, Bledsoe, TO and co are the epitomy of "the highways jammed with broken heroes on a last chance powerdrive"

that means NO ONE gets in their way
