So I take it the OPOY doesn't need to make the playoffs like the DPOY does.

Got it.

Well, if Bob Sanders can win DPOY, anything is possible.

I am not upset. I just don't understand the awards or at least the criteria to win them.

Brees had a big season as far as yardage totals. He was bad in the Saints losses. He had a lot of attempts. Marino set the record in 1984 for single season passing yardage on 73 fewer attempts than what Brees threw this season. And the rules and enforcement of the rules is a lot more offensive friendly in today's game. Had the Saints made the playoffs, then I could see him being more worthy of the award. There were some better offensive players out there.

One of them is Michael Turner. He had a big year rushing the ball for the Falcons with 1699 yards. It really took the pressure off of the rookie QB Matt Ryan and helped the Falcons make the playoffs. He had two 200+ yard games this year, one in the first game of the season and one in the last game of the season. I thought he would be good for the Falcons, but I wasn't quite expecting this type of year. It was impressive.

This is how fickle the national media is.

During the course of the season, the MVP race went Brett Favre, Kurt Warner, Drew Brees.

2 of these 3 played their way out of the playoffs - and Warner had a big season but those 2 receivers are arguably two of the best in the game.

So in the end, they just gave it to Peyton by default - whom also just got eliminated from the playoffs.

Ware was punished for being on "Team Turmoil". If Brees winning the OPOY doesn't prove that then i don't know what else will.

I'll preface my post by saying I don't really care about these awards, don't feel any Dallas players deserved anything for the way this season went, don't believe there's a specifically anti-Dallas bias, etc.

But it does kind of kill the argument against Ware (his team didn't make the playoffs) for winning DPOY when Brees won OPOY. The two don't jive at all.

You passed on the statistically best guy in one category for his team's failure, yet gave it to the statistically best guy in the other category despite his team's failure. Again, I'm not going to blame it on a bias, but rather just bad logic.

Anything you leave up to JUST the media, is certainly going to have an anti-Cowboys bias. Throw logic out the window.

I'll 2nd that.

I'm not generally one for conspiracy theories or "anti-Cowboy bias", but I don't believe for a second that if Tony Romo had the exact same season Drew Brees just had (W/L record and all) that he would've won this award.

Football is a game in which the QB (deservedly or not) receives a lion's share of the credit/blame for wins/losses. The same isn't said for a OLB/DE. So one would THINK that if they were going to punish a guy for his team's W/L record, it would be a QB.

No logic to this double-standard whatsoever. Ware got screwed.
