LOL, and I thought I was pessimistic about the season! I look at it this way, the OL is aging but not old. They are banged up and this should be a concern. I am sure McCarthy sees this. But what was our record after 3 games last year? and after 6 games? The answers are 3-0 and 3-3. I am okay with a slow start because the OL needs to get healthy and gel if it means a strong finish, something that was rare in the Garrett years.

I would not underestimate the difference a new coach can make, maybe not in the first half of the season so much but given how bad Garrett was in game management, game planning, etc. and given how bad the defensive strategy was every week, I cannot see how the Cowboys can be worse in 2020 than they were in 2019. Coaching alone should be good for a couple of wins.

But I admit there are a few areas of concern, starting with the OL. Then there is Safety - again. But I trust McCarthy to figure out a way to hide these problems more than I trusted Garrett and co.

I am not expecting a Super Bowl, or an NFCC appearance just year. But they should win their division. On paper every team in the NFC East got a little better, but the Commanders,er, I mean the Washington Football Team is a mess. I think the Giants have problems everywhere. The Eagles are hurt on the OL worse than Dallas. We could see another 9-7 division winner. But I think the Cowboys will win the division if injuries do not take them down.

You cant tell me that you honestly supported Garrett. Hoping the team wins and hating the coach are two different things.
I wanted Garrett fired years ago, but when each season started, I supported him and the team and wanted them to win.

Not liking someone or wanting them fired or cut is not enough for me to stop supporting the team or hoping they lose to facilitate an off-season move that may or may not happen.

The team is more important than the coach or any player.

I want the TEAM to win regardless of who is coaching or playing.

When the season is over, I can hope they fire, cut or trade coaches or players I want off the team.

I'll never understand why it's so important for some posters to convince people there is no reason for optimism. If nothing else, it's the attitude of a quitter - it's saying "let's give up before we even start".

Competitive people, and people who win, don't view things that way. That doesn't mean they can't recognize obstacles, it just means that they believe in competition, and the spirit of competition. After all, the very nature of competition is overcoming obstacles. Anyone who feels doomed because there are obstacles is doomed to fail.

I'll tell you why I never his case. Because he's bitter. So blinded by hate that not only can he not have optimism anymore, but he wants to ruin things for everyone else too.

He wanted to pick a fight with this thread and he got it.

I'm not the loser that had to start a thread about this, am I?

If anybody "can't handle" being wrong about Garrett, it's you.
:lmao2:
But here you are. I wasn’t wrong about Garrett. He was what I thought he was. And I haven’t been wrong about Jethro the last 25 years either.

Y’all drink up . I’ll pass until I see something worth celebrating.

Then leave. There's the door. Nobody making you stay. In fact, most will be happy to give you a push.

Don’t let the negative analysis however concerning from the media and fans dampen your overly optimistic outlook for this season. Stay focused . Keep the blinders on .Fill your pitcher full of kool-aid.

We have a new HC who is bringing us all of the hope we need to finally winning another championship. And a QB looking to validate his value with doubtful fans and media.

No worries with an aging and history battered OL while losing 2 key pieces. No concerns with an unproven secondary.

The leagues best receiving Corp always wins championships. Jethro and his Cheapskate Son won’t derail the season :)

What could go wrong? Super Bowl or Bust. Lol

I don't like the Kool-Aid reference for two reasons. One, anyone can see enough change and talent on this version of the Cowboys to be optimistic without the Kool-Aid reference that they are being fooled. Two, it is a poor reference because of the origin of that. Drinking the Kool-Aid refers to being overly willing to buy in; the real reference is the murder of children and not suited to a sports comparison. I really do wish we'd dump that reference. And I used to use it until I actually thought about it.

As far as the team having a great set of WR's giving hope for a good season, when did the Cowboys go to a SB without that? How about the Niners or Steelers? Colts or Saints?

I can see enough about this team to be optimistic with no real effort, I do not have to sell myself on anything. I am confident they will win the East but beyond that, no feeling either way. I haven't really considered how the other contenders might have improved beyond the East. Need to see the first 6-8 games to get a feel for which teams are the true contenders.

Nobody is celebrating. Having optimism isn't the same as celebrating. Optimism is necessary to accomplish anything - winning or getting ahead requires believing it is possible. If a person (or team) is as willing to give up before even making the effort to succeed as you seem to be, that person (or team) cannot have success.

I’ve been bitter for over 25 years. I walked away from 4 decades of season tickets because of Jethro. He’s the most hated sports personality in Dallas area. But we still root for the team. It’s a bittersweet relationship. Like a marriage gone bad.

Y’all drink up the Kool-Aid while some of us will wait and see.

I see them as separate issues.

1. Rooting for the team to win
2. Not supporting the coach

Now there are games, like last years Eagles game where that comes into conflict. Knowing that if we lost that game that Garrett would be fired I openly admit I was rooting for a loss. Probably the best loss in the last 15 years. Got Garrett out of Dallas and gave us MM.

You guys actually have drank all of the Kool-Aid. Lol

Y’all actually think we have been saved from Jethro.
I’ll ask agian...

What’s a reasonable scenario where we are “saved”?

Sounds fantastic. Literally, like a fantasy.

That’s fine. This thread isn’t for you then. It’s for those who haven’t bought into we’ve been saved from Jethro. At least not until the results come in.

After 25 years I’m going to need much more to sell and or convince me. I’ve been rooting for this team 16 weeks a year without hope for a very long time now. A new HC and a few roster changes hasnt changed it for me.

When Jethro is 6 feet under. In the meantime playing in February would be a start.

Hope for the best and expect the worse.
The team has major ? from its QB to def-backs, LB,def-line, and off-line with age and injuries.
Add to the above a new HC new systems thing might get murky to say the least.
I wish us GL!
Remember how in the past when the team would go on a win streak and you’d disappear for the duration?

Do you remember how happy that made nearly everyone?

Do it for others. Go away ;)

I'm nervous about some of things that dude said, but I'm not pessimistic about the season or the teams future.

A new HC with no off-season to prep is a concerning way to start the year. But he's an experienced winning coach so I think he can get them ready and we'll be good in the long run.
Losing Fred beard hurts. But we have some very good depth at center so we should be fine.
Losing Collins for at 3 games is definitely a red flag for the team. But again, we do have solid depth to weather the storm and should be able to bounce back strong when he returns.
Dak is betting big again, lets hope he proves it and gets the deal he wants. I think he's good enough to win it all, if he gets the chance.
I'm not worried about the WR's being monsters at all. I think they have a chance to be super special. As in, all time great special.

Not sure why this guy (and so many others) are so harsh to JJ and SJ? Butt hurt about JG getting the boot maybe? JJ gets so much flack for just wanting to win it drives me crazy. He has stepped on his dick a few times over the years but has always done what he thought was the best thing for the team and the players. With 29 years of NFL experience, Stephen Jones has established himself as one of the brightest and most versatile executives in professional sports. Those are not my words, but a quote from a reporter.
People don't want to admit that the Cowboys are one of the best run franchises in football, but they are.

I will always hope for and quite frankly, expect the best from my Cowboys. Nothing this year has changed my mind.
LETS GO COWBOYS!! TIME FOR ANOTHER RING!

Obviously by starting threads like this. I don’t care. But y’all can’t handle that everyone isn’t drinking the Mikey Kool-Aid that we’ve been saved.

And can’t handle when media personalities and critics aren’t sold this team isn’t going any further than it has.
