Drop Paulescu and let Folk punt

He was a good punter at Arizona and 1st team All State punter in Cali in high school. Paulescu isn't any good and we could use the roster spot.

Then I'd cut super Brad and make Brooks or Crayton hold for kicks and free up another roster spot. I held for kicks in high school and it ain't that hard.

I wouldn't do that this late into the season. We are asking for a kicker to have tired leg after he hasn't conditioned himself for this.

A tired leg is the least of our worries, an injured leg is what I would worry about most.

And risk injury to our stud kicker with more duties? Forget it!

Honestly, how many punters get hurt? Mcbriars injury was a fluke.

These guys legs are made to kick. Punting is not going to injure him. Other people have done it, seriously, how much more pansified can the kicking game get.

...place kicking (soccer style) is across your body and punting is in aligment with. At the NFL level they two different motions. You can do both duties. Many players have done it in the past, but it takes some conditioning to do so.

Just thinking that you can add (5) extra punts to your game repertoire without conditioning your muscles is taking an unnecessary risk.

At best we would see some embarrassing results from Folk, but worse we may be looking for a new place kicker and punter if he injures himself - ie. groin pull from trying to over kick punts he's not conditioned for.

Leave him alone and try to get to the playoffs with what you have. 75% of the season has past and fooling around with position changes are what you do in training camp.

Not so sure I would consider this, but a kick-off specialist is another story. :)

The Falcons tried this with a kicker/punter two years ago, I believe.

It was a disaster.

Matt McBriar 49.0 avg. 38.8 net 66 lng

Sam Paulescu 42.5 avg. 35.4 net 70 lng

He's actually doing pretty decent for a guy they picked up off the street in the middle of the season.

It was with Koenen IIRC.

He is strictly a punter with them. Not saying Folk could do this... but the difference is Koenan wasn't that good of a Kicker to begin with. If Folk did it in college successfully.... he's probably better at punting than Koenen was at kicking field goals.

Folk could boom punts in college. I mean really launch them.

Paulescu is doing just fine. Going with just ONE kick (intentionally) would be dumb.

If I were the opposing coach I'd go Buddy Ryan on his *** and have him taken out. Then they'd have no kicker or punter.

...saving a roster spot with one kicker for all three kicking duties, but only after they work on it in training camp.

With McBriar I would rule that scenario out. If we were ever in a pinch I would say look at it, but the coverage teams would be basically (10) men unless the returner hits the 50.

That way you can keep your only kicker away from unnecessary injury unless there is a possible run back for a TD.

It's risky business at this level and players are stronger, faster and hit harder - not a good recipe for the kicker to tackle.

definitely do not want folk to have a case of tired leg, he already has baby arm, that along with tired leg and tired head, he might just burn out.

Here's an idea...(I can't stop laughing...)...Have...coach Bruce Read (and I use the term coach very, very losely)...actually coach a player up for once in his tenure at Dallas...

I know that is asking alot, but ti is the Christmas season right?

It's not a matter of him getting tired. It's the stretching and preparation necessary. Yeah, let him punt and tear his hamstring by overextending it.

Three yards difference in net punting yards? Yea this guy sucks.

We have bigger fish to fry than concerning ourselves over three measly yards.

I agree. And I remember us having much worse than this in the past pre-Mcbriar.
