Just found this interesting since the position is a hot topic! This is the draft at defensive tackle for 13 years prior to McCarthy! You knew it was poor, but this is like they weren’t even trying at all. Worse than remembered. Specially with some real head scratching picks over the years at other positions where they could’ve easily went DT. Plus you know you could pretty much scratch Hill off the list if they didn’t get completely run over in the playoffs.

This is as pathetic as it gets!

2010 RD 7 Sean Lissemore
2014 RD 7 Ken Bishop
2016 RD 3 Maliek Collins
2017 RD 7 Joey Ivey
2017 RD 7 Jordan Carrell
2019 RD 2 Trysten Hill

Don't forget resident punching boy Tyrone Crawford.
Sure he was drafted as a DE and played there as well...but he has also spent plenty of time playing DT for this team.

still not a great addition to this list. Certainly doesn’t tip the scale in it’s favor!

In fairness they had jay ratliff or Jason Hatcher up until what, 2013? Maybe 2014, not sure when Hatcher left. That’s when the position really became a train wreck. Crawford was serviceable for a little bit. They had some patch jobs that were ok in guys like Terrell McClain. David Irving was a great find, but couldn’t stay on the field. The name doesn’t come to mind but they made what was perceived as a flash FA signing at the time from philly but the guy turned into a huge bust.

when monte & rod came to town is when that position really seemed to be devalued, and I agree it seemed they didnt care. More important to give nick Hayden a chance than to actually spend resources on the position.

still just one 7th rounder in that 6 year span with Hatcher and Ratliff? No real plan or development.

That reminds me. Should we make the trade for Gilmore or sign Sherman?

Sad part is...he is probably the best of the bunch from that list.

True, but Jerry with another terrible contract. Mind blowing stuff from a guy who stuck around far past his expiration date. The tough decisions and development process were few and far between.

Garrett seemed to love Boise State players and Detroit Lion coaches?! Hitting that wealth of greatness regularly! On top of the draft picks getting that 0-16 HC was masterful. Pure genius.

No argument here, more understandable that it wasn’t an area of need at the time though. With jerry giving up multiple draft picks for the likes of Roy Williams it was tough to draft depth at all positions.

Sean Lissemore was the best of the bunch considering his draft spot.

Case in point on the draft priority. If the "GM" could actually draft he comes away with a WR and DT and still has a pick left.

But this is why people are acting like the Cowboys really changed their philosophy at DT by using a 3rd rounder in each of the last two drafts on a DT and signing McCoy, Poe, Urban and Watkins in FA over the last two offseasons. It was so pathetic before the last couple of years, that a few mid round picks and some vets people can recognize and suddenly the team really values DT.

LOL.
