  • The Cowboys need more size at DT. If they re-sign Hankins, then they have 2 big 1tech types with Hankins/Bohanna.
    • They really need a big 3tech. See table 2.
    • Note: Odighi and Golston are both reported to be 290 or heavier now.
    • Top tier example: N. Suh was 6-4, 310, arms 33-1/2, hands 10-1/4 at the combine.
    • Jalen Carter would be perfect, but he won't drop to #26 despite his "issues".

  • Table1 Groups:
    • Top 10
    • 1st round
    • 2nd round

Benton is my favorite DT in this draft and would be perfect addition for this teams line. Pass rusher with the strength to defend the run

I think he'll fall to round 5 or later to be honest
Apparently his combine workouts were underwhelming. At his size, agility and short area quickness are most important. He was never gonna chase Tyreek Hill down from behind.

Zacch Pickens might be a candidate.

Arm 34 3/8" Hand 10 3/8" 6'4" 291# NFL comp Maurice Hurst (minus the medical red flag)

Overview
Athletic interior defender with experience and length as a gap-control tackle but the quickness and play traits that might be better-suited to attacking upfield. Pickens has a disruptive first step that creates advantages for him as both a run defender and pass rusher. He plays with harmonious hands and feet to elude blockers or play off them, but he’s likely to get moved around by NFL drive blockers. Pickens has the ability to play both tackle spots in a one-gapping front and has rotational value with the potential to see starter’s reps.
Strengths
  • Above average arm length with quick hands.
  • Early recognition and response to the blocking scheme.
  • Able to separate and maintain balance through contact.
  • One-gap athleticism and foot quickness.
  • Works suddenly off blocks to tackle his gaps.
  • Winning first-step quickness in his rush.
  • Ties long-arm move with counter steps to open pathways to the pocket.
  • Keeps feet and hands active throughout the rush charge.

Is Dexter a 1 or a 3 in our defense?
The Cowboys basically have 4 types of DL personnel/alignments.
1. Run Downs: Standard 1tech and 3tech
2. Equal Run/Pass: Pass rushing DT at 1tech & standard 3tech
3. Likely Pass: Two 3tech types both aligned as 3techs
4. Definite Pass: DEs at DT

Ideally Dexter (6-6, 310 pounds, borderline arm length) would be a 1tech in category 2 and a 3tech in category 3.

If you draft a player like Mazi Smith in the 2nd, then the hope is that he'll play 1tech in categories 2 & 3.

Ika is probably a 1tech in category 1 only.

Benton (6-4, 309, good arm length) projects as a slightly better run defender and slightly lesser pass rusher than Dexter.

He fits the Cowboys/Quinn mold with 34+ arms and 10+ hands.

Interesting that his body type/size projects to pass rusher but his best attribute in college was playing the run.

Have you watched the top NT's in the class? Who do you feel is the best fit? I know we all love a high NT every year, but we have seen these 2 down types start to go in rd 3.

His stats weren't eye popping either with 42 tackles 4 for loss and 2.5 sacks. I mostly noticed the measurables and traits. Would His combine numbers were pretty good and he did all of the tests including the bench which is unusual these days.
