I keep seeing people suggest signing Paea. I assume because of his connection to Marinelli.

I reviewed all of his snaps against the Cowboys in 2014. I reviewed all 6 of his sacks and various snaps against other teams.

I was not overly impressed. Obviously just about anybody is an upgrade over Hayden. If Paea is available for a really cheap price then fine, but I wouldn't pay him much or really be excited about adding him to the roster.

He did have 6 sacks but is easily pushed around in the running game. The Cowboys punished him. I almost felt sorry for him the way they bullied him around.

Of the 6 sacks:

2 were against Tampa who gave up he 3rd most sacks in the NFL in 2014. Their OLineman just didn't look very good.

1 was against Atlanta that I would consider a quality sack, although it was against a rookie OT.

1 was against Carolina and no OL touched him before he ran over a RB that tried to block him.

1 was against the Jets and the QB ran outside and then slid down untouched.

1 was against the Niners and the QB ran out of bounds.

Sounds like we already have a few of his type on the roster. Might as well wait and draft a DT. But as you said, if cheap price tag, and since Hayden is a FA. Why not.
Maybe he didn't look good against us, because our OL pushed many of players around.

That's a valid point.

I do not see him as a #1 technique DT. Not at all.

I see him as a guy who fulfill the "Melton" number of snaps in 2015 as the guy splitting snaps with Crawford.

That being said even a combo of Brent/Bishop would be better as the #1 tech DT's over what we saw in '13 & '14.

To put someone out there over the course of two seasons who's contributed this stat line...

1525 snaps

0 sacks

11 QB hits

26 QB pressures

Would be downright comical if it were a team other than Dallas.

You want a prime reason why this team can't provide a consistent pass rush?

There it is.

If the guy was some kind of "immovable object" in the run game would at least allow you to hold your nose a little with those crummy pass rush numbers, but his run defense may be even worse than his pass rush.

And no, I don't care that he's seen "hustling".

Make a play closer to your position on the field and you won't have to "hustle" so often.

I think T. McClain could be a similar player if healthy.

I think the Cowboys primary goal at DT will be finding a second 3tech that can rotate with Crawford and will be on the field together with Crawford in passing situations.

I'm OK rolling with Brent, Bishop and T. McClain competing for the 1tech spot.

He tied our sack leader last year with only 6 sacks. We need legit pass rushers. Let's hope Lawrence comes on.

Are the sacks the only thing you reviewed? Sure, Dallas was able to push him around but a Marinelli-type interior lineman are going to get pushed around against our line.

I'm going to piggy back your post and say I went back and watched a few Chicago games from this past season and did a write-up here:

frankly i dont know what Marinelli sees in Hayden,i like him as a coach but his keeping Hayden around and playing him on important 3rds downs is mind boggling .

Protecting Bishop's turf?

McClain wasn't playing the nose. He tries to shoot gaps and how he gets out of control doing it can be murder on runs. With Brent out they just trotted out more Hayden. bleh.

I am still predicting that Crawford will eventually used like Doleman was at the Vikings when Kiffin was there in how they moved him around. Last year was his first year at the position ever but I still think he can play end.
