Drafted by Cowboys DT Tommy Akingbesote Maryland

I don't hate this pick at all....looks like the prototype for an Eberflus interior player. High motor, good size, good length and uses it well to create separation and get off blocks, athletic enough to move laterally with no issues. Seems to have some pass rush upside as well. Excellent late round lottery ticket pick that seems to have legitimate 3 down upside if it all comes together.

With all due respect of course Im just not seeing the production and/or your hypothetical of it all coming together.

As with Guyton and Mazi, I see this as more a traits over tape type.
Athlete over football player.
I hope Eberflus somehow alters his Marinelli dline coaching based roots and figures a way to properly defend against strong running teams.
I believe he did that more so in Indy than Chicago if I'm not mistaken.

I again think lack of run stop may be this team's downfall.

*But maybe, just maybe Troia can really plug and all the under 3s including this guy can combine with Troia to make it at least an average front to run against.
I'm basically anti-Mazi at this point.

Bout all I got.

No you're absolutely right. I doubt this is a plug and play guy, and certainly a traits pick, but its round 7....you're either getting the developmental traits guy, or the low ceiling guy you hope to squeeze something out of like a Joey Ivie.

I doubt either of these DTs taken are major year 1 contributors and DT is still an issue for the Cowboys in 2025. These guys are both lottery ticket picks, but this is where I would rather see the traits guys selected.

You actually never know……
Trust me. I pray that I do not know squat about his ultimate potential. I will be happy if he reaches a Jay Ratliff level. I will be ecstatic if he becomes much more than that.

This defense must improve its ability to stop the run. It is imperative even. I will be doing cartwheels if Akingbesote becomes an asset in making that happen.

Well, not making cartwheels. Not sure my 60-year-old hip wants my brain demanding cartwheels, lol.

Right on.
Good call man.

I am not going to argue taking a lineman late who has certain traits. Sure it is a long shot but every once in awhile you hit on these players. I liked the highlights of both defensive tackles they picked. Now they may not make the team or provide any impact if they do, but look like good roll of the dice late.

Marinelli would not have drafted Jay Toia. He did not believe in big. He just wanted quick.
