I blame that totally on coaching. Why on earth would you have two guys back to catch the kick? There is no need just let the ball land where ever....game over. Stupid coaching.

The only reason I can think they would be back there were to defend a fake. But the coach has to tell them under no circumstances should they touch the ball.

They were probably back there to prevent a fake.

well earlier this year, my old HS was playing a game......the opposing team kicked off and our KR caught it in the end zone.....he started to run out, but then his teammate convinced him to kneel the ball.......unfortunately, he kneeled it at the 1/2 yd line......

Also, if anyone saw the Army All-American Bowl, that featured Desean Jackson.....they saw him commit a total bonehead move. He had a sure TD, but decided to showboat and do a flip......and either landed at the 1 or fumbled at the 1....I cant quite remember. I just know it cost his team a TD on the play.

I also remember a play involving the Oilers and I believe Minnesota. A WR was about to score a TD, but stuck the ball out to showboat, and a hustling defender knocked it out of his hand and the defense recovered it......

Texas vs Wyoming this year....the ball is on the Texas 8, and the Horns are punting. For some unknown reason, the punter rolls and and decides to run for the first. This wasn't a called fake. The punter improvised, and for no darn good reason. He could have kicked it with his rugby style kick.....but instead, he chose to try to get the first down. He failed miserably. Luckily the Horns D held them to a FG afterwards.

What about that Pac-10 QB last year who had his team within FG range for a game winning attempt, but instead either let himself get sacked or threw a completed pass in the middle of the field and they didn't have enough time to stop the clock. (btw, this type of play happens quite a bit)

Then there is Marshall returning a recovered fumble about 70 yds in the wrong direction for a safety....and wasn't that a playoff game?

And of course, last but not least, let us not forget the two blunders by Leon Lett.

I've seen pros do dumb things like that and even do some dumber things. Leon Lett on Thanksgiving, Plaxico spiking a ball after a catch when nobody touched him(thinking it's still college rules) and the other team recovering his spike or fumble, Leodis McClevin(sp) running that kick out of the endzone and than fumbling it costing the Bills the game over the Pats in week 1. That's just a few off the top of my head.

Pros have done some stupid things too. DeSean Jackson comes to mind. Or that time a Cleveland Brown thought the game was over so he ripped off his helmet to gloat/celebrate... unfortunately the play was still going on so the other team got a free 15 yards and an untimed down, which they used to kick a game winning FG. But the dumbest play of all time has got to be...

That poor kid. That's going to haunt him forever. Bonehead move by the coach to even have them back there without making it perfectly clear to them not to actually touch the ball but at the same time by the time you're in high school you have to know you can't just spike the ball down and think the play is over.

I have no problem with Lett's blunder in the Superbowl. It was a blow out. The one in Miami was much more important because it costs the team the game. There is a huge difference between the two. The whole team was just having fun toward the end of that Superbowl. It was one of those plays you laugh at while celebrating a huge win in the biggest game. Yep, I have never had a problem with what Lett did on that Sunday night.
